About us

The Clapton Hart dates back to the 18th Century. Originally the White Hart Hotel in 1722, it was rebuilt in the 1830s after it was destroyed by fire and again in 1890 as a brewery pub. Over four centuries it has traded as Stagecoach Inn, Public House and under several identities as a nightclub, eventually closing in 2008. We began a refurbishment project restoring many of its original and unique features. After months of renovation, we re-opened the newly named Clapton Hart in May 2012.

A stone’s throw away from Clapton Pond, the Clapton Hart is a friendly pub serving the local community; we have become a firm favourite around Hackney and beyond. A grandeur backdrop, every effort was made to maintain the pub’s original aesthetics, with the addition of a large beer garden, The Hart is bright and spacious yet cosy.

A modest sized bar is home to eight Cask hand-pumps and several guest kegs. Our main focus being an evolving drink range showcasing Craft Beer and Real Ale from microbreweries in East London to worldwide, featuring Hackney Brewery, Beavertown, Saltaire, Pressure Drop and many more.

Expect homemade British food, seasonal specials, vegetarian & vegan dishes and hand-crafted bar snacks, accompanied by house-favourite Henderson’s Relish. Sunday Roasts have become notorious and are our offered alongside our legendary home-infused Bloody Marys.

We host regular events such as CH Pub Quiz, ‘Stick it up Your Betamax’ VHS Film night, ‘The Burger Shed’ and ‘Pond Life’ DJs, as well as ‘Meet the Brewer’ evenings, National Vegetarian Week, Cider & Ale Festivals and others. Please check our ‘Events’ page and ask staff for more details.

Rickety furniture, hollow pianos and old sewing machines create inimitable corners and romance of a vintage feel. While ragged walls, bare-brick and high ceilings with open fires and board games provide a cosy feel to our new old h(e)arty boozer.

A lovely traditional boozer with loads of space and nooks and crannies. Sunday roast was decent enough but nothing special. We went on a particularly cold January afternoon and the place was bloody freezing. Might go back in summer.

Very friendly atmosphere and really nice staff BUT so disappointed with Roast Beef Dinner. Yorkshire pud was over cooked so any amount of gravy would not help. Had to ask for more of the gravy to help eat it. Vegetables were cooked ok but hard at the edges, I’ve had better roast potatoes and meal did not arrive hot. It felt that the meal had been cooked ages ago and just quickly reheated. Did not complain as it would have spoilt the occasion with family. Will not return.

Massive... lot's of rooms, cubby holes and seating styles, even a large garden area. Shabby chic and intentionally down at heel fashionable feel. Friendly and swift bar service plus some great real ales and wines. Sensible prices. Dog friendly too

Beautiful old pub with a lovely vibe. One of my favourite East London boozers. Comfy and well picked furniture that is inviting and tasteful. Lots of space, so you can usually find a table. Great select of beers and ales. Food reasonable. Prices are great. See if you can find the fun pinball machine in one corner.

Great atmosphere! Almost a museum! Lovely staff, music and space to chill, eat, and play! Amazing. Sunday Roasts! A must try! But make sure you go on empty stomach! They are huge 🥰🔥🥰 !
