A famous haunt of journalists and barristers, and immortalised as ‘Pomeroys’ by Rumpole of the Bailey, our Fleet Street wine bar and shop has a colourful history and guarantees a warm welcome.
The Fleet Street bar, our flagship, was in fact converted from a hall of mirrors, and we maintain to this day that spending too long in there may cause you to start seeing double…!.
We shared a couple of platters over lunch and everything tasted fresh, which is all I really could ask for! Nothing felt stodgy either. Makes a change from the usual pub food in the city so would definitely be back.
I was really disappointed by my experience here. We came in to have some food, it wasn’t particularly busy. The staff were absent and when you interacted with them, they were quite abrupt. One member of staff sighed at us when we asked for the bill. They took the order without writing it down and then bought the wrong food. It was expensive and the food was… okay? Not worth the cost. Can’t recommend when there are so many great tapas places in London.
Very enjoyable wine tasting evening with a nice 3course supper, hock terrine, chicken schnitzel, sticky toffee pud or cheese board (option available) 12 people in attendance ours was a Spanish night, other country's available.
Spent a lovely hour at El Vino in Fleet Street. It was a quiet Saturday, about 6pm, and for a while I was the only punter. The two barmaids were helpful and chatty which was nice. The place is like a flashback to the 1930s. Although on the street best known as the home of journalists, this is definitely a lawyers pub. The High Court and Inns of Court are just down the road. El Vino is well worth a visit and if you can get in when it’s quiet and absorb the atmosphere, the decor and read a few of the little plaques, you’ll have had a worthwhile time.
Staff are lovely. Food is decent and good value, really enjoyed the dolce leche cheesecake. The Malbec was divine 😍 and they do a carafe as well as bottles and by the glass. Stumbled across it when looking for somewhere to eat. It was a really lovely experience.
