The Doric Arch is named after the arch at the front of Euston station. Designed by Philip Hardwick, it is in fact not really an arch but a ‘propylaeum’ of the Doric order. It was built in 1837 and become the gateway to the midland and a new adventure - unfortunately it only lasted until 1961 when the demolition started and a new railway station was underway.
Remains of the Arch have been found in the River Lea at the Prescott channel in East London and plans to rebuild the Arch using some of the recovered stones have been mooted.
Haven't been here in years but was happy to spend a pleasant evening there. Got there before the rush so we bagged some of the super comfy chairs also. Decent selection of drinks and very good service so well worth a visit. Toilets are a whetherspoons type distance away but you can't have everything!
Very good Fuller's pub just outside Euston Station. Seven cask beers - and one cider - on handpump when I last visited. The bar is on the first floor and the toilets (entry to which require a code from the bar) are in the basement. There is no outdoor seating. An electronic departure board operates in the bar which is very useful for those popping in for a pint before a train journey.
I only had a coffee but it was excellent. The reason we loved this pub was because we arrived at Euston and it was seething with people and an absolute chaotic mess. We had quite a bit of time before our train and wandered outside and at the main entrance was this quiet looking pub. We ventured upstairs into an air of civilised calm and were served by two lovely people. The loos can only be entered with a code so they were clean. If you have time to kill at Euston I would suggest you head here instead of coping with the madding crowd!
I was amazed how quiet this place was at peak time (6pm). Quirky, old school boozer with a standard list of drinks. Service was fine. Prices were standard for near a capital city's main train station. £6 for a lager and £12.85 for a double gin and tonic. Definitely the place to go if going for a drink at Euston if you want to have a bit of space, charge your phone at the many seats and plug points. Hard to find, even with two entrances!
A perfect spot for some lunch and a beer on leaving the bustle of Euston Station. Situated near Euston Square bus station, you need to climb two flights of stairs to access the pub but once up you are treated to a nice interior with railway relics and pictures of the I'll fated Arch itself We shared some Nachos and had some local draught beers, service was prompt and very friendly making our visit pleasant before moving on into Central London. Be warned, the toilets are downstairs which may cause an issue for limited mobility customers. I recommend this better than the Euston Tap as it is indoor and has a quieter and cooler environment.
