Small wonder then, that the chaps from Monty Python used to write their material here. We're known for our resident angelfish, roaring fires and superlative range of drinks, all lovingly encased by local art and original 1930s wood panelling.

Had a lovely meal here today (beef shin and pale ale pie with clotted cream mash). Very friendly, helpful staff. It was lunchtime so pretty quiet but I will definitely go again.
Nice decor and atmosphere. Asian lady that initially came to serve us was very helpful and friendly but had to grab the attention of staff that took over from her. Had to wait a long time for Sunday roast and even had to ask if our food could be brought to the table because it was obviously ready at the hatch. My half a chicken was actually two scrawny legs with hardly any meat on one. The stuffing was tiny and very dry. Pig in blanket (singular) was overcooked. Wine prices are seriously and ridiculously excessive! We know pubs have to get over lockdown but such increases since are taking the piss out of customers.
We have been regular visitors to The Angel since Rachel, the manager took her position there. Having known the pub before and since Rachel’s residence, I can say without hesitation that it’s an entirely different space. Rachel has created a warm, friendly yet professional environment. The food is always excellent, there is a decent choice of wines and the service is always exceptional. We are lucky enough to have a variety of pubs to choose from, all within walking distance but nowadays The Angel tops them all.
The service was impeccable, especially given we were the second large party of the day. Food was great and they even managed to accommodate two extra guests with no notice. The waiting staff were attentive and even made a seating plan which meant they located people with the right food with ease. When I settled up the bill we had even managed to get the cash right and I had a lovely chat with some of the bar staff. No notes, genuinely lovely evening!
Went to the Angel this evening as it has become my preferred local. All staff are so friendly and the atmosphere is ideal…. you can hear yourselves talk! The food served at the tables has always been very good love their sausage and mash. This evening sampled their new line in take out fish and chips I believe available until almost closing time but correct me if I am wrong. Very well thought out and nicely packaged, mostly recyclable , little pots of tartar, ketchup, mayonnaise, vinegar and mushy peas. Opening the box to see a good size piece of cod, lightly battered and a decent portion of chips as well. Thoroughly enjoyed after a few pints and a refreshing change from the normal go to of pizza burger or KFC. Well done the Angel keep it up. Give it a try. V
