The Lochside is an Islay institution: a privately owned hotel with a bustling restaurant and a lounge that has been recognised as one of the great whisky bars of the world. With 12 newly refurbished ensuite bedrooms available all year, the lochside really is the heart of bowmore.
Now under new management by Neil Morrison (Macgochans-Tobermory) and refurbished in January 2016 by renowned Scottish Designer Ronald MacColl, the Lochside has been transformed back into its glory days with an establishment to suit the service and warm welcome we provide.
Our Menus are based on everything local, and we pride ourselves on using produce straight from the sea or land to your plate. Local crab, langoustines, scallops, mussels and oysters all feature regularly on the Lochside’s summer menus, alongside halibut from the neighbouring island of Gigha, prime steaks, racks and shanks of lamb, as well as old favourites like fish and chips and Steak and Islay Ale pie.
Our dining conservatory offers some of the best views on Islay, overlooking Bowmore’s picturesque harbour and Loch Indaal. We also offer a fabulous selection of local and rare whisky, Islay ales on draught and a stunning wine list to suit all palates.

Stayed for new year's last year and returned again this year as it was such a great place to stay. The Lochside team are fantastic and make you feel right at home. Add to this the bar and views from the restaurant and it makes for a stay to remember. Thanks again all!
It was a nice cozy stay there, the room was tiny but super sweet, cozy and had a nice view to the sea. The bathroom was a dream, nice shower and all brand new. The Bar is a dream for everyone who Loves a good glass of whisky, or two or may more, but be careful, or you may need a appointment with your bank accounts :). The Bartender, a young Man was the perfect match to the Bar, he could nearly tell to all of my drinks something. Really a pleasure to met him. I will always recommend this hotel and hope to come back in summer to enjoy the wildlife nature of the the Islay. Nik
Spent two nights here, I was in the annexe at Briarlee house a short walk away. Very comfortable room which was spotless. Food and service was excellent, breakfasts were the best. Many thanks.
Fantastic food, both breakfast and dinner were delicious. The view from the dining room was absolutely beautiful. Everyone that worked at the hotel, bar, and restaurant were nice and helpful. Rooms were spacious and well equipped.
Went for dinner and it was great. Perfect spot overlooking the bay at Bowmore. Scallop special was fabulous and the estate burger was also very good. Very informal dining but perfect for a night out in Islay
