The Generous Briton has been at its current site since 1937 making it one of the oldest pubs in Loughborough. What’s more amazing is that it sits on the same grounds as an original pub that was opened in 1837…now that’s history!
The pub became a genuine free house in 2011 and won the CAMRA Pub of the Year in 2012. “The GB” is ideally situated between the town centre and university.
The pub has now undergone an extensive refurbishment programme and particular attention has been paid to retain many of its period features (the open fires are still here!) and is equipped to serve drinkers from all walks of life.
There's no food sold (besides crisps) but you can bring your own and eat it in the outside area which is covered and has heat lamps and screens to view sports. Otherwise there's a pool table and bar staff with good attitudes.
Great little pub with a positive atmosphere and fantastic beer garden (with heaters)
I'd give this a zero if it wasn't for the barman (George) being really amenable and friendly. If you are going to have a dartboard in your pub, it should be a board that allows the darts to stick in. Absolute joke when the darts always fall out. And there was no alternative board to use. Wish I knew before I bought a drink. Proper waste of money
Good little (modernised) traditional boozer. Good place to watch the rugby/football/cricket. Shoot some pool or throw some arrows. Reasonable guest ales - Guinness otherwise. Small beer garden at back. Some parking nearby but subject to permits/ restrictions on Ashhy Rd or in the Golden triangle (who needs a car at the pub anyway). Plenty of food outlets nearby otherwise typical salty snacks.
Was half way through watching a football game and then told we had to move so they could have a stiudent quiz night, avoid this venue if you want to watch sport
