Built in 1714 the thatched property is immaculate and looks at its best during the spring and summer months when it is draped with colourful hanging baskets and overflowing window boxes. Wandering inside, visitors will find a traditional interior of wooden beams and tiled floors. There is also a large amount of rugby, cricket and golf memorabilia – with the owners being keen supporters of the Leicester Tigers and sport in general.
The Woodies has been run by the Warner family for over 2 decades, with sons Simon, Jonathan and dad Peter – the ex-rugby player looking after the bar, leaving daughter Ann-Marie and mum Jilly-May taking care of the food. The pub also boasts 3 petanque teams and runs regular buses to “Fortress Welford Road” – Home of the Leicester Tigers.
Each weekday lunchtime there is a fine bar menu served, with offerings ranging from freshly cut sandwiches to heartier dishes – including homemade steak and kidney pie. In warm weather meals can be taken outside to the large landscaped garden. There's no food served in evenings or weekends – when the pub becomes perhaps even more popular for its liquid refreshment and lively conversation.

My first time visiting. Both service and atmosphere was excellent. residents made me feel apart of the place. Definitely going there again. I haven't rated the food because didn't eat there. But I can imagine being good. First class all round.
This is one of our local pubs and is a great place. We normally visit at a weekend. I believe they do good weekday lunchtimes. Sunday afternoon is a lovy atmosphere with live Jazz outside.
I went here for a pint after work with some colleagues. We sat outside in the beer garden and soaked up the sunshine and the relaxed atmosphere. Would throughly recommend this place for a summer drink. Might be a squeeze in the winter as the space inside looked smaller than the outside space.
Was here for my daughter's and son in law'sbbabyshower. Lovely outdoor seating (covered). Great for small groups (30). Just a very nice pub, friendly service. Will be back (soon I hope).
A traditional English pub with wooden beams and welcoming fire in the quaint village of Rothley. The staff could not be more welcoming. There is a good menu selection for lunch. Definitely will try to go back during the evening.
