Situated just within the Countesthorpe Conservation Area and named such by an erstwhile landlord who had previously worked as a carpenter
Consisting of: public bar with substantial bay window each side of front door; lounge bar to the rear displaying many interesting photo’s of bygone Countesthorpe on the walls plus a smart dining room annex. Outside are a rear garden and a petanque piste.
Very busy when we went mid afternoon, but the service of all the staff were fantastic, so friendly, helpful and attentive. The food was excellent, couldn't fault it. It is on the dearer side of a normal pub, but this chain are on the next level. Well worth paying the extra for something a little bit more special. Recommend 100%. The only small negative is that it can be on the noisy side because of the lack of soft furnishings to absorb the sound, but don't let this put you off....
Met up with friends on a recommendation, booked a table in advance. Nice selection of drinks, great menu, at good prices. Food came out quickly and nice and hot. All plates cleared, with a big thumbs-up from our party. A massive thank you to the young lady who took our order...she found and brought to us a purse left in the bar area, most grateful. Highly recommended.
This is the second time we've been and the service has been amazing, aslo the food......but this time we had a little hiccup with our steak. The only reason it hasn't got a full 5* for the food was because our rare fillet steak was cooked medium. But it was still very nice. Carpark is a little small, but there is paid parking just round the corner Will definitely be back. I recommend you visit here 😊
Booked lunch for 6 for the MIL's birthday on a recommendation and it didn't disappoint. Pleasantly greeted and seated quickly. The Menu selection looked good with many tempting options. We ordered various starters and mains, as well as drinks. The drinks arrived quickly as did the starters. The mains were brought to us shortly after we finished our first course. The food was delicious, I do our cooking at home and we don't often go out as I hate paying for food that is sub par to my own and I have to say Axe & Square hit the mark, I would happily eat there over and over again. It was so good we went back the week later for my own birthday lunch, again we were well looked after and the food was first rate. My faves; Tex Mex Chicken Strips Starter and the Gochujang Chicken Loaded Naan. Highly recommended.
We had a lovely meal for our 5 year old granddaughter’s birthday. The staff were very friendly and sang happy birthday to her and she was very surprised. The food was delicious, a couple of items were a little salty but nothing worth complaining about and the portions were more than ample. The car park is a little small and has no disabled parking spaces but we managed to find a space. Overall we had a nice meal. Also there was live music in the garden when we came out.
