The Last Heretic, in Station Street, aims to be a laid-back micro-pub, which offers something for everyone, including a wide range of Real Ales from Burton breweries as well as some other National and International beers.
Also a range of Ciders and Perries along with "craft" bottled lagers. It is the brainchild of Peter Spittles who decided to open his very first pub after working as cabin crew for 21 years. Pete says: "I'm excited, it's an entirely new venture for me, but I think there is definitely a market for it, and Burton is the place to do it". The pub itself is named after Edward Wightman, born circa. 1580, who lived most of his life in Burton and was the last person in the UK to be burned at the stake for heresy. He spoke out strongly against the church, and when he failed to recant, he was burned outside Lichfield Cathedral in 1612 !!.
Absolute beauty of a pub, the barkeeper was very nice and helpful. Had a good conversation with him and and a few other guest. Sending love from Sweden, will absolutely make this a stop next time I’m in England
Pros: delicious beer, great proximity to the station, lovely dog Cons: the atmosphere isn't exactly welcoming. I felt like I'd just walked into some sort of private party where I felt like an inconvenience more than a customer. I really enjoyed my drink but I don't think I'd feel comfortable coming back in the future.
A very Nice place to spend good time, even alone. The owner and clients were very open to me and the beer and cider are really good. If i come back to burton one day i definitivly come back to this pub! Thanks a lot. Oh and also, don't leave the place without trying the pikkle eggs!
The Last Heretic is a fairly new micropub a little outside of Burton centre, less than 10 minutes from the train station. It's a very small place, but offers a larger outside seating area in the back; the latter (as you can see on my pictures) isn't the most comfortable though. There's a tiny bar with a big guy behind it who will help you with the selection. All real ales are up on a chalk board, with ABV and price per pint. The prices for ale here are very competitive, around UKP 3.50 a pint. The beers are fresh and well-kept (in a little chamber behind the bar, directly from the cask). The good range of beers makes this a place to recommend.
A lovely little micropub situated nicely by the train station. Clean and tidy with an excellent atmosphere, friendly staff and really good beer. The pork pies are pretty special too.

The Devonshire Arms Is a traditional pub with a unique, relaxed and friendly atmosphere in the historic brewing capital Burton on Trent. Pint of Festival Bitter. Good choice of cask ales and nice atmosphere too.

Wide range of beers, both on hand pull or direct from the barrel. Few pubs like this these days and well done to Joule's for maintaining its traditional feel.
