If you want a no-thrills cheap, clean but dated room then this is ideal. If you want 5 star luxuries then pay extra and go elsewhere. This is my second visit to the hotel and I have been hosted well on both occasions.
Met up with my buddies for a work Christmas party. Bar maid took 20 minutes to acknowledge me and then refused to serve me because I didn’t have my ID. Mind you I work at the busiest pub in Oban, manage the backpackers, i’m covered in tattoos and had 5 people to vouch for me. Wouldn’t have minded if she didn’t make me wait 20 minutes in an empty bar. Shocking service.
Hotel is dated and rundown, which is the best bit. The worst is that i had an intruder who kicked his way into my room at 3am who i managed to subdue. The hotel / staff were un-contactable at the time, I'm still waiting for a reply to an answer phone message (which was the only contact possible) nearly 24hrs later regarding the incident.
If this was cheaper, it might not have rankled so much. The rooms, showers, and decor are from decades ago. Items didn't work (e.g. old radio). On a plus side, the towels were newish, and the room appeared clean. The sort of place you want to stay out of as much as possible. It's in a great spot to walk in and out of Oban
Feels more like a 70s motel. The shower/ toilet is extremely stuffy and you will have to walk out and all the way across the room to use the tap and the sync. The carpet has come off in places and the chair cushions have gone quite dark in colour. Asked for the iron for my clothes but couldn't get it because there is a risk that the wiring won't be able to handle it. The view from the breakfast area is breathtaking and worthy of experience. A very unique stay but leaves a lot more to be desired.
