About us

The Eagle & Child is set in the heart of Weeton village directly opposite the village green. Beer Garden and children's play area available during the summer months.

Dating back to 1585 the “Eagle & Child” takes its name from the family crest of Lord Derby who once owned most of the surrounding land; it is one of the oldest public houses in the North West. Whilst little of the original building still exists the sympathetic changes over the years have left us witThere is a large rear wine garden, a large side beer garden with a children’s play area, and a spacious seating area to the front together with two car parks providing ample parking.

The present owners Isla & Michael have set themselves high standards to aim at, to provide a welcoming family atmosphere and through hard work and the support of there highly motivated staff, have seen a steady increase in trade in the short time they have been there.

Isla runs the food side (see menu and specials page) serving traditional freshly cooked food using as much locally sourced produce as possible, with an ever changing specials board in addition to the main menu, there is always something for everyone’s taste and pocket, including a wide selection of vegetarian options.

The bar is run by Michael serving a wide range of beers, wines, spirits and non alcoholic drinks. There are five different Traditional Hand Pulled Cask Ales available, Theakstons Best Bitter, Wainwright and Caledonian Deuchars IPA are ever-present, together two guest ales that are changed on a regular basis. Also on draught are Fosters, Kronenberg, Sagres, Guinness,

Strongbow and John Smiths Extra Smooth.

Approaching haute cuisine! Came on a recommendation by a good friend and was not disappointed. Three courses and one drink for about £40 per person. The beef wellington was specifically recommended to me and whilst not exactly as I expected, was nothing less than delicious and tender. The pastry was crisp and buttery, wrapped around a very tender cut of beef which melted in my mouth. The portion size was not unreasonable but I'm glad I ordered a side of salt 'n pepper fries to complement the main. My partner had the gluten free cheeseburger which was very tender and perfectly cooked. A separate gluten free menu is available and had plenty of choice, with prices matched to the regular menu. We finished with a tasty dessert, of which there was a good selection. The atmosphere inside is friendly and welcoming, and it seemed to me there was seating for 80+ people. It was busy for a weekday evening but the service and wait time was very good. I already look forward to my next visit!

Amazing, each time I visit I choose the healthiest meal from the menu and they never let me down. Vegan Buddha Bowl picture posted with Halloumi added on was the best meal I’d eaten all week & needed after a week of eating fast food out and about. Hummus and carrots with cucumber was perfect for the little one & Salmon salad was described as scrumptious by my wife. Perfect lunch out & booked back in on the following Friday for a birthday meal. Staff were excellent & really accommodating when asked for daughter food asap to keep her happy. Bonus sword displayed in the entrance way which was found during local excavations.

Came here randomly on the way home. Place itself is gorgeous both outside and in. Love the huge beer garden looking over the fields with a couple of cute outside booths for 4 people. Staff were friendly if not very chatty. Food was nice and my only complaint here was that the menu itself didn't have a big enough variety to choose from.

Nice place to go to have a bite to eat and a beer. Pub done up lovely inside. We sat outside when we visited as it was a sunny day. Plenty of outside tables at front and rear, we also took our dogs as it’s dog friendly. Food was good but not fantastic, fish was very greasy from been fried. Chicken burger was tasty. I had soup to start which was lovely. Staff were friendly, but service at bar slow. Worth a visit.
