The Hand & Dagger is consistently excellent, and I can't recommend it highly enough. Over the dozen times we've visited, the food has never disappointed. There's a good selection on the menu, without creating decision fatigue, and there's always additional choices on the specials board. The food is excellently prepared and flavourful, with good sized portions. I feel it's well priced for the quality. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming. If you're lucky enough to get a table by the open fire in the Winter months, you won't to leave. Martin, the owner, and the rest of the team are fabulous. Will be continuing to return to The Hand & Dagger. Here's to its continuing success!
My wife and I just this evening dined here for our 13th wedding anniversary, and what a treat it was! The staff were friendly and attentive, and our server had a good grasp of dietary restrictions and how they affected the menu options. The chef set my mind at ease regarding a particular menu choice and offered a quality substitution, and there were a few vegan and gluten-free options for dessert which surprised and delighted us. This attention to us as customers really made our evening. One of the owners did several rounds of the place checking on people and engaging in conversation with the regulars - clearly a labour of love for him.
Can't fault it. Great food, nice staff, plenty of parking and the prices are realistic. It can get busy but it's well worth stopping off on the chance of a table and try it out! The haggis and mustard starter is amazing, it's must have. The hand and dagger is our new go to as we only live 2 miles away!
We had a lovely meal on Friday evening on the way back from Blackpool with my husband,son and 3 grandchildren. The landlord and landlady made us really welcome and fussed over the 2 youngest of 6 and 3 years who were showing her photos and videos on their phones and YouTube, they were really taken with her, and we had a good chat about what we had been doing and where we were going to. She was very interested, would love to go there again.❤️
My friend and I dined here a few days ago and the food was absolutely top notch, could not fault it at all. The garlic mushrooms (starter) and steak burger (main) were so good. My friend had the battered brie and cranberry (starter) and chicken and leek pie (main) and he said they were also really great! The staff were friendly and attentive and the pub is a cracking little find just off the beaten track. Highly recommended!
