About us

The Wilson family Carole, Paul, son Duncan and his wife Heather owners of the Pheasant have created a warm and cosy atmosphere with the introduction of a log burning stove

in the bar area and a comfortable lounge with an open fire. Enjoy either a quiet space to read a book or daily newspaper or afternoon tea with friends.

Sharrow Bay trained chef Duncan creates new and exciting seasonally changing menus with the best of local produce. Enjoy the menu in our bar area or stylish dining room.

Our new modern refurbished bar boosts a selection of locally brewed cask ales which change on a regular basis and a wine list which has been carefully chosen for all tastes. Well behaved dogs are welcome in the bar area.

Bedrooms look out over fields or over the village and to the fell. Private car parking is provided to the rear of the building whilst established gardens, lawns and mature trees enhance the north side of the property.

Just a short distance from the interesting market town of Kirkby Lonsdale, Casterton lies within easy distance of the Lakes and the Dales and the Forest of Bowland.

For golfers, there’s the excellent 18-hole course along the road, and round the corner in the other direction a 9-hole course where visitors are always welcomed.

Popped in for a quick meal as we were on our way to Edinburgh to celebrate the new year. Unfortunately, an hour after eating our meal me and my girlfriend started feeling unwell . Service good food not good.

Wonderful village pub. Friendly staff, great beer and food. A highly valuable asset to the village. I wish our village had a community focus like the pheasant

We came at lunch time. I had. The squid rings. You got plenty and the dip was very nice but I don't think the rings were home crumbed. They were also just on the wrong side of over cooked. A little rubbery. Easily done. No salad with it either so it was a bit boring for the money. The steak pie. At first when it came out I was a little disappointed with the size but by the end I was very full. It was packed with meat. The pastry was lovely and the chips were crispy, just the way I like them. There was also a nice gravy and some veggies. Definitely recommend. Even though we were full, we're pigs so we ordered dessert. The white and dark choc terrine was nice. The mango compliments the richness well. Highly recommend this place.

We had a great two days at “The Pheasant”. The staff were exemplary and we really enjoyed the food in the restaurant. Our room was very clean and the bed very comfortable. I took off a star because the water pressure was very weak and I struggled to fill a bath or wash my hair. ( There wasn’t a shower.) I expect this isn’t something the hotel can do much about but it was a shame. That said, we have already decided that we would like to return at a future date because it was such a friendly venue.

Visited the pub for a bite to eat whilst on and attentive. The bar area is very clean and tidy and well laid out. Seating is very comfy and well spread out. Food was absolute excellent, I had the pheasant breast and my partner had the moussaka. Reasonably priced for what you receive. Would highly recommend and would visit again.
