The pub’s history is long and kenspecle. Long before its 1960s heyday, when together with The Scotia, The Clutha (known as The Popinjay, then The Weemann’s) became the centre of the burgeoning folk/political scenes, it was already part of the city’s story.
Glasgow’s second-oldest pub, it was first granted a licence in 1819 and had an array of interesting landlords over the next 150 years. One, George Johnson, who bought it in 1892, was a big-wig in Cambuslang, where he was secretary of the local football team and bought instruments for the local brass band. Another, James Omand, who had it in the 1950s, was stabbed while trying to eject a gangster.

Went in around 1pm for some food advertised £8.50 for pizza and a pint and we felt like we stuck a goldmine; very unique beer garden with friendly, family-owned atmosphere including the band warming up which gave us a good laugh. Pizza was fresh and bigger than the plate and cheesy chips were served as a big portion with lots of cheese. Great place and definitely worth the price 👍
Been meaning to call in here for some time. Not dissapointed at all. Great music. Freshly made pizza, great beers. What's not to love?
First visit to the Clutha since the helicopter accident. It's nothing like what I remembered, the original pub is now a storeroom and the back yard is the pub.... Saying that, it was a cracking pint of Guinness and live music, so good for a Tuesday night. The weekends are pretty busy and worth trying to get along to hear one if the many good bands playing there....
A Glasgow institution in the heart of the city. Friendly and informal with a local pub feel. Looking a bit ragged round the edges cosmetically but always a great atmosphere
Love this pub. Great pub with a funky atmosphere. Good fun and good bands
