For centuries The Lamb & Flag has been a traditional coaching inn set at the foot of Sugar Loaf mountain. Situated at the gateway to the Brecon Beacons National Park, on the outskirts of the bustling market town of Abergavenny, it’s the perfect base for exploring the National Park and taking in the stunning views.
You can enjoy a stay with us all year round. The spectacular views from our conservatory are ideal to enjoy when you cosy up by the roaring log fire in the winter months. Savour some al-fresco drinks with friends in the summer on our outdoor terrace.
We’re delighted to welcome families and offer a separate children’s menu along with our own children’s playground to keep the little ones occupied whilst you enjoy a meal and a drink.
We are well known and trusted amongst the local community and visitors, and serve breakfast daily. We also have a great range of coffee and cakes to choose from, ideal for after a long walk in the Beacons.

If you’re into fine wines, why not visit one of the two great local vineyards; Sugarloaf Vineyards and White Castle Vineyards where you can enjoy some wine tasting and a tour of the vines. Cute pub, surrounded by beautiful mountains. Stopped here for some food and it didn’t disappoint. The cod was beautiful. Husband had steak and said it was cooked well. Will definitely be back to try a roast dinner next.
The steak was delicious and the young man who served us couldn't have been more helpful.... but, he seemed to be the only person taking orders and serving. Consequently the food was a long time in getting to us and we were never asked whether we wanted anything else. More staff were needed but otherwise very good.
After 4 days up in Snowdonia camping, thought me & my son needed a decent pub meal to get us back to Somerset. It's our second visit to the Lamb & Flag. Really friendly table reception and friendly waitress (mum like) Our food was next level! I often hike up in The Black Mountains & will definitely be back. *ultimate mix grill double meat fantastic 😋 keep up the great standard well done Lamb & Flag🏴
Had a lovely stay here before we went up the mountain at Ebbw Vale for a Rock Festival. Staff were very friendly and the setting was lovely. We will be back next year! Thank you 🙏
I would give it 6 stars if possible! This is realy a very nice place to stay! I stayed here for 4 days to drive around, the area is beautiful! Lots and lots to see and to do everywhere. The People are very very nice and the give you all the attention and help you need. Food was good and delicious. Bedrooms where more than ok. Beds where very good. Not all rooms have a bathtub, so if you want one ask before when you make reservation and they make sure you get one. Excellent!!
