About us

With its Yorkshire stone exterior, distinctive carriageway arch and prominent position overlooking Yorkshire’s largest market square, The King’s Head Hotel is in an 18th century Georgian inn set in the historic market town of Masham, Lower Wensleydale.

Dating back to Saxon times, Masham boasts an ancient church that is mentioned in the Domesday Book and a weekly market that has been taking place for over 600 years.

The town is renowned for having not one but two famous breweries – Black Sheep and Theakstons. The latter is best known for brewing the world-famous Old Peculiar ale. As you can imagine, The King’s Head Hotel is a popular destination for quenching the thirst of both tourists and visitors.

Located at the edge of the beautiful Yorkshire Dales National Park, The Kings Head Hotel is in the perfect North Yorkshire location to discover the fascinating heritage and outstanding beauty of the area, including Richmond Castle and Brimham Rocks.

We had a lovely lunch in front of a warm fire…the service was exceptional. Gay and Chris were very friendly and welcoming. I can recommend the fish finger sandwiches and a pint of black sheep!

We had dinner here on a wet Saturday in the New Year! The Kings Head is a great big building right in the centre of Masham. It is lovely and welcoming inside, where we had a drink at the bar first before being seated. There were 10 of us and the service was brilliant throughout. All the meals came at the same time, with no delays. The food was really nice, most of us had three courses. The staff were lovely and friendly. I would definitely visit again, a lovely little place.

A warm Yorkshire welcome from the whole team.... Rooms are airy, warm, comfortable and such a peaceful night's sleep.... Breakfast was a delight. The food delicious, hot and cooked to perfection... served by the lovely Gay, Chris & Jo.... a credit to the team. All working in harmony to give you a great start to the day.... Book well ahead and you won't be disappointed

Lovely location. Staff are really friendly and helpful. Fantastic food and great atmosphere. Rooms are good size and the bed is comfy. We were here on a work trip. But I would definitely return for a holiday break.

We came to Masham for a day visit, but after a visit to both the breweries, we decided to stop for the night. A quick check on Google for hotels, and we decided on the Kings Head. Which turned out to be a great choice as the food was delightful and the rooms were very nice. The crisp, clean sheets and firm bed made for a lovely sleep. The welcoming atmosphere in the pub was only bettered by the staff in the dinning area, Gay and Chris are amazingly friendly and great fun with lots of banter to keep punters in check. The breakfast didn't disappoint with lots of options not only in the cooked breakfast but also cereals and pastries. All in all I would definitely recommend a visit and even a stay in this lovely Yorkshire village with the Kings Head being a great place to spend some time.
