A must visit! Lovely and accommodating staff, great interiors and fabulous food. One of my favourite meals of the holiday - really high quality and delicious. Highly recommend :)
We had probably one of the best dinners we have had in the country this evening. :) absolutely incredible, after finding this through a google search and miraculously getting a table that same evening… It already started with the appetizer - that treacle bread, wow, its like cake, just better - the best bread we have ever had. Do not skip the bread when you go. Its worth it! We had the pork and duck and the winter spiced cabbage (amazing amazing amazing) - everything was fantastic even down to the chips! Dessert, fluffiest banana souffle I have ever laid eyes on, and the ginger ice cream - YUM! And to top it of, we were looked after by David all evening, who was nothing but kind and attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. Made us feel right at home! I am sure it will be the first of many visits. A beautiful experience in a gem hidden away - special! :) Thank you! :) PS: never skip the bread, why would you, might miss out on the best bread you have ever had .. ;)
Absolutely delightful little pub, so glad to have discovered this! The food was delicious, and the plates were a work of art. We enjoyed everything we ate, but the dessert was the star of the show (so it's worth saving some room for it!). The banana souffle was magnificent, as was the chocolate delice. The chef and their team deserve their AA 3 rosettes and I would be surprised if they don't get a Michelin star in the near future. The service was perfect, as the staff were attentive but didn't hassle us or rush us, so we spent a very relaxing leisurely 3 hours eating and catching up. The dining rooms are decorated beautifully and the log fire burners are so cosy and inviting. Will definitely be visiting again.
Weekday lunch... Just to caveat this with I'm dairy free and didn't book in advance. But the options for me were very limited (just 2 mains - without the dairy parts like the sauce, and one sorbet) and the one I had was distinctly average. The rest of the food looked good and others with me enjoyed their food. But for the price tag, the lack of good options for a relatively common allergy was pretty poor.
We had a lovely stay and good night sleep. The food was nice. We appreciated beautiful presentation and great service from the restaurant manager, however the food was overpriced. We both disliked mackerel as a starter (very strange texture and flavour) and the main was a small portion. However, the breakfast was very tasty.
