About us

Here at The Kestrel Inn, our traditional country pub, we take great pride in our menu and our suppliers. Most of our meat comes from our local butcher and our fish is supplied fresh from Cornwall twice a week. In season, our vegetables are supplied by a local organic permaculture centre and if not, a local business.

Our menu is mainly Modern British with a Mediterranean influence.

We are nestled in the heart of the Black Mountains, in the Brecon Beacon’s National Park. The building has been here for centuries and was originally called “The Half Way Inn”, as it was a coaching stop for travellers between London and the Welsh coast.

We are really passionate about our drinks here. Beers is sourced locally, wine from at least 6 different merchants and we blend our own coffee which is roasted in the Black Mountains.

This inn was wonderful and my partner and I had a memorable and relaxing stay. The host was incredibly warm and welcoming, making us feel at home from the start and offering friendly conversation and advice about the area throughout our stay which was much appreciated. The breakfast was delicious and generally we felt like we were staying with family - with the added bonus of complete privacy and separation when we needed it. The room was a good size, immaculately clean and modern - whilst still having the charm of an inn. The mountain view from our window was breathtaking. Would recommend to anyone looking for an authentic stay in Brecon Beacons and hoping to come back next summer! Thank you very much. Kristina & Ben.

We ate in this pub just after Christmas on a family holiday. It had been beautifully refurbished, with a real fire and a welcoming bar, tastefully decorated. Richard (the owner) was really chatty and very engaging. The food was excellent and good value (very filling). I would recommend the trip out of town for it.

Booked my daughter's 30th birthday family dinner here for 17 people. Not only was the three course meal delicious, even catered for 6 children with a different menu, but Fiona actually baked the most wonderful chocolate birthday cake for her. Richard was very attentive throughout the meal and nothing was too much trouble. We all had a delightful evening which we will remember for a long time. Would highly recommend the Kestrel Inn. Thank you Richard and Fiona.

Great food. Lovely wine. Perfect evening with friends. Highly recommended. You know the food is going to be good when you get to discuss the best cut off beef with the butcher because he drinks there.

Really good freshly cooked food! Very nice restaurant with country charm and stunning views of the Black Mountains. Good quality food and drink with excellent service. Friendly hosts are even willing to accommodate special needs for a fussy vegan like me. 5 STARS - ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
