Much improved bar staff now - actually smiling and helpful. Great atmosphere and good prices. Even went out to get me hot chocolate as I wasn't warm.

Great little pub with great people, can't rate the food as they no longer serve it but pints are faultless

Visited in July 2022 for Tuesday Karaoke. Quality real ale. Turned out to be a brilliant night out. Go visit! It's a historic local pub (15th century, named after Wat Tyler the unfortunate leader of the Peasant Revolt). Has been vastly improved since our last visit few years ago. The current landlord Shane is friendly, welcoming, can sing - and even used to earn a living at that! #ElvisLives😎 A long, narrow pub with traditional bar along one side. Loudspeakers have been professionally installed ready for visiting DJs to plug their equipment in at small raised area by side entrance opposite the bar, where karaokeers "perform". And most customers did. There are tables and pews (yep, like in church!) at the front where we sat, and high stools at the bar. Four real ale pumps, three of which were on including *5.6% Theakston Old Peculier* which stuck in my mind. Didn't have that (‘Lunatic’s Broth’) though, and can't remember which of the others I had! But beer was excellent and reasonably priced. Pint of whatever I had plus single spirit and big can of coke £8.20. Shots were five for £10 and also good. Karaoke was by Terryokey, who put on a good show that started just before eight pm.

Recently I went to the Wat Tyler with friends for a quiet drink, as I had been there previously and thought it to be a nice pub. This time I was shocked, quite busy people drinking at the bar shoulder to shoulder no social distancing, no signing in book for track and trace, staff behind the bar serving with pints in their hands and no masks. It felt to me as they had no measures in place at all. To top it off, drinks prices were inflated stating that they had to make the money back some how. Not a place I will be returning to.
