About us

The George Hotel offers you the most exceptional of experiences, combining history, indulgence and outstanding service. Dating back to 1300, The George is one of Cranbrook’s most historic buildings having played host to King Edward I in 1299, and Queen Elizabeth I in 1573. Yet the hotel’s rich history is fused with a contemporary twist – the magnificent staircase, flanked by two full suits of armour, leads up to 12 stunning, individually-designed rooms, combining period features with fresh, modern décor.

Our menus echo a desire for quality dining using only the finest, locally sourced, seasonal ingredients, resulting in dishes which are both exciting and delicious. The excellent cuisine is complemented by a carefully selected extensive wine list spanning the globe.

Perfectly positioned to enjoy the outstanding local beauty of the Kent and Sussex countryside, The George is the ideal base from which to explore the numerous attractions the area has to offer, such as Sissinghurst Castle Gardens, Royal Tunbridge Wells, and the Cinque ports of Tenterden.

Rooms seem freshly refurbished, though our basin tap was broken. Also, not the tidiest building work, traces of messy bathroom mastic. Corridors in our block also looked a bit tired. The big stylish mirrors only cover up so much. The team are certainly making an effort to spruce the place up, though they're not up to scratch yet. Bar area looks quite appealing, good range of beers, a nice period charm. Sadly, the food offering was a bit underwhelming. An afternoon egg sandwich was drowned in far too much cheap tasteless mayo. Also, my full English breakfast was just ok, didn't necessarily feel like the best quality meat ingredients. Significant room to improve the kitchen offering.

Not happy at all with the level of service from the George last night. The lady behind the bar with the short hair and tattoos was extremely insensitive towards us and our reason for being there. Not only that but there were multiple occasions in the night where she was rude. People of all ages had issues with her showing her incompetence and lack of people skills. The George is a lovely establishment but is ruined by her presence. I’ve been coming here for 7 years and this is causing an issue. Otherwise lovely

The George is a centrepiece of Cranbrook with fantastic facilities both indoors and out, unfortunately ruined by one of the most unpleasantly rude bar managers I have ever had the misfortune of meeting. We booked out the pub for the funeral wake of our best mate. From start to finish, the short haired blonde bar manager was entirely insensitive and disrespectful to - without fail - every single person that she served. I absolutely cannot stress enough how awkward the atmosphere became between this staff member and not just customers, but also her fellow colleagues who again, appeared to be taking the brunt of her aggression. I could not think of a worse personality for a job that revolves around customer service, it truly damages the reputation of an important establishment in Cranbrook.

The George is a beautiful pub - unlike the blonde lady with tattoos who was incredibly rude to us when we came to be together after my best friends funeral. She also refused to let one of my friends who works at the George to come to the funeral. Everyone was shocked by the insensitivity shown to young people after such a devastating loss.

OMG! What a find, food was excellent, drinks menu very good. Accommodation out of this world. We managed to get the Crimson room which contains the most amazing four poster bed I have ever seen. Staff were also excellent. Would definitely recommend a visit
