The Imperial Arms, Old Hill, Chislehurst
The Imperial Arms is an outstanding Gastropub, Bistro and Function Room based in Chislehurst. It was refurbished to a very high standard by family member, Interior Designer, Martyn Lawrence Bullard and features in his TV programme Million Dollar Decorators.
The Pub is cosy, warm and inviting with two bars and dates back to 1787. The Library Bar and the Catherine Bar, named after the Mistress of Napoleon 111 who stayed here when he was exiled to Chislehurst in 1870. The Bistro is housed in the Original Coach House in the grounds of the Garden and this is available to hire for functions as well as being a restaurant from Thursday to.

Had a great meal tonight with my family and the in-laws. Service was impeccable and very child friendly. Food was outstanding, we will definitely be back again!
Roast dinner: one of the best we had. Excellent vfm, great variety and a decent portion. Beef was cooked perfectly. Same for drinks and desserts. We would like a bit more variety in the desserts but those in the menu will absolutely do the job. Service was good and attentive. Prices are very reasonable. The decor is pluralistic and eclectic, definitely more enjoyable than most pubs. The caveat: at the bistro, there was a lingering frying smell (it is adjacent to the kitchen), which means our hair and clothes smelly slightly. Additionally, the door does not close easily (it is a historic building after all), which means when inconsiderate people walk in/out and don't close it behind them, it is quite cold/drafty.
What a perfect pub...this is without a doubt one of the best, most historic pubs in the area. We visited on a Saturday afternoon and we're greeted by a welcoming, attentive team who clearly take incredible pride in running the pub. The decor is unbelievable and the owners have made sure the 1700's historic pub has been kept beautifully. There is a great selection of drinks including a very reasonable wine list and some great real ales. The food is exceptional and way above a "standard" pub offering. The whole menu is fantastic but the burgers really stand out and should definitely be tried when visiting. A huge thanks to Alan and the team for a great visit, here's to many more.
This was absolutely the food highlight of our trip and definitely worth the effort getting to from central London. The staff was kind and helpful and even brought us in from the rain even though we showed up a bit earlier than we meant to. The atmosphere was beautiful outside and in. Most importantly the food was absolutely delicious! Our Sunday roasts were just perfect! I wish I lived closer so I could come more often! (If anyone in Chislehurst is hiring Americans just let me know!😉)
Beautiful old pub with lovely food! We sat in the external courtyard surrounded with flowers... And a cute, nosy boxer watching from his garden up above! 😂 Sydney was our wonderful, friendly and vivacious bar/waitress. The perfect blend of attentiveness, information and patience she ran up and down the stairs to the kitchen to check ingredients and availability for our friend and was graciousness itself- deserving of 5 stars already! Our party had-Thai chicken curry (friend had allergies this was g/f & milk free) Old Hill steak burger-"oh wow this is good! I think this is one of the best burgers I've had in a long time!" and the Korean Chicken burger-looks bizarre on arrival but "oh yum! So tasty! Oh the sweet crispy onion topping.... Mmm! I would definitely a) have this again b) return here especially for this!" It was just the right degree of 'a bit different' and with the v tasty variety of flavours and textures ie the Asian slaw. All plates completely cleared-not a regular occurrence! Desert was a sticky toffee pudding: light and not too sweet- our friend had never had it before (due to allergies but it was g/f and Milk free) declared "This is the best desert I've had in a loooong time!" (ice cream was separate due to milk allergy as sharing desert-bit full! Lol) Everyone in, and serving was so helpful & friendly- and v welcoming. Pub at weekends also has a Bistro also open: giving 3 dining options. Limited Parking on a slope. A mobile got left- staff were fantastic, contacting us by email to let us know. A new favourite destination for us! Massive thank you to the Imperial arms team-from front of house to chef... a winning combination!
