About us

The Rose & Crown Elham is a Grade II Listed building, it was originally timber framed and built in the 16th century. Most of it has been re fronted, and extended at the south end, where a date stone gives the date 1740.

This inn was used for many years for the Elham Petty Sessions, and the courtroom can still be made out on the first floor. Mortises and grooves in the beams show where a small room was set aside for the use of the magistrate, who visited here once a fortnight.

The first game of Bar Billiards was played here in the Rose & Crown, Elham in 1932.

David Gill of Ox Road Farm, North Elham was responsible for creating the first Bar Billiards table, which was first played on here at the Rose & Crown Elham.

In 1968 when the Elham Village Study was written these buildings were still being used as stables.

The study statesโ€ฆ. โ€ These are still used as stables, and are an interesting relic of the old coaching days. The outbuildings behind the inn were once used for brewing ale, and the old well which supplied water for this purpose still remains, where, within living memory, there was a donkey wheel for drawing water.

A lovely, friendly pub. My wife and I popped in for a pint ๐Ÿป or two whilst out for a walk. Friendly service and a lovely fire to warm us up.

Had such a great meal last night at the Rose. Chefs Special was sea bass and it was comparable to what you might hope to get at a top restaurant. Served with a separate dish of scalloped potatoes, grilled baby plum tomatoes, spinach it was first rate. Great atmosphere, good service too. Thank you Rose and Crown ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ

We stayed in the Pub for two nights with our dog. The whole team where very friendly and accommodating. There is a really nice local atmosphere in the pub. The food, we had breakfasts and an evening meal which both where Well cooked, high quality, well presented, delicious meals. The room we stayed in was huge, clean and well equipped. It can be tricky to find good quality dog freindly placed to stay so we would highly recommend the Rose & Crown to anybody. The location is also very good for seeing Kent. We got the bus from just outside to south coast and or Canterbury to allow for day drinking ๐Ÿ˜€

We were so happy to see this pub reopen. The new owners are very professional and very friendly. We stayed in one of the rooms, a very large room and well appointed. Our dinner and breakfast were both delicious. We wish the new owners all the best and feel sure they will make a real success of it. We will be b
