Serving up real Ales, fine wines and delicious food in a warm and welcoming countryside Pub in town. Don't miss our secret garden out back!.
This place has had a great refurb, totally transformed. Food was really delicious and inventive (the monkfish and curried dahl was exceptional, as was the slow roasted pork belly and tuna sashimi - photos attached), lovely cocktails and service was great (particularly Freddie who was very attentive and friendly). They were also very accommodating of a granddaughter (9 months), so would recommend for lunch with babies. We'll be back!
I want to start by saying that my review should be helpful to all people who have a dairy allergy! The pub atmosphere is excellent; however, when I told the waiter I had a dairy allergy, she confirmed that I could order almost every dish! So I ordered the beef roast on the menu with horseradish and carrot cream and other veg like red cabbage, green beans and Yorkshire pudding. Now, the waiter told me that the pudding and the purè were not dairy-free, but the chef could replace them. The dish came only with some potatoes, red cabbage and one piece of carrot. The beautiful plate served to everyone in the restaurant was reduced by more than half for me. However, the same thing didn't happen to the bill, and I paid as I ate the whole dish! Now, I’m not asking for a price reduction, but for this price paid of 35£ on my poor plate, I should have gotten maybe more carrots or potatoes, at least until the plate was the same weight as the normal one! Having a dairy allergy precludes having a lot of food; however, if a restaurant accepts to serve food to those who have the allergy, the plate should be a decent one as the regular plate on the menu or don't ask for the total price or don't accept to serve food free from allergy as you are ending by serving a dish free from the food (almost empty). And this situation runs the atmosphere.
I had a family dinner there tonight. We’ve been lucky to get a table without booking. The food was absolutely incredible. The soup, the fish, were excellent. The pithivier was simply gorgeous. So good we’d like to eat that everyday.
Wow! What a Sunday lunch, delicious. We added cauliflower cheese and sage and onion stuffing. Cooked to perfection. Service great with folding arriving surprisingly quick. Thoroughly recommend. Best to book table as Sunday was busy. We sat in bar area which was absolutely fine. Enjoy :)
Visited twice recently and has been great on both occasion. The first time we had some lovely drinks in the patio garden with a few friends would definitely recommend in both summer and winter. The gochujang chicken is a must as well as a small plate! 2nd time we had visited for a Sunday roast. Was one of the best we’d had in a long time. The roast was big enough, however we had starters and some bread so, you may want to order a side (3 cheese and truffle cauliflower) if just getting a roast on its own. Definitely coming again. 10/10
