Really good place. Quiet during the day when I go which is what I'm after as I'm often there to do some of my course work.

I was a regular at the Jack & Jill in the late 70s when I was a youngster. In those days, you needed to wear a tie to get in on an evening, which some people baulked at. I had a wonderful collection of ludicrously bright 'kipper' ties that I would wear proudly tied with a huge knot. You had to get past a 'bouncer' inspection before you were allowed in. This may sound far-fetched for an estate pub in Berwick Hills, but believe me, in those days, it was the best pub I've ever been to in my life. Nothing since has ever compared to change that opinion. After my wife and I moved to Hemington in 1980, our visits to the J&J became much less frequent. The final one I recall was March 1981, the day Sea Pigeon won his 2nd champion hurdle at Cheltenham. It was lunchtime, and I remember putting 10p in the jukebox and selected Kim Wilde ' Kids in America' and Shakin Stevens 'This Old House, listing whist tucking into burger & chips. On Wednesday, 18th October, my older brother and I were cutting the grass at our old family home. When we finished, I said, "Come on, I'll buy you a pint in the Jack & Jill." It was about 12:45 and the place deserted. I tentatively put my head around the door to find an empty pub. I spied a young lady behind the bar and I asked if it was open. Giving an affirmative reply we went in. Oh my goodness, what a change from those halcyon days of 40+ years ago. Not a single customer. We both had a pint of Worthy and a selection of crisps and pork scratchings. It was great, reminiscing about days gone by, discussing the plethora of Boro kits on display. I have to say the beer was perfect, the only downside was being limited to one as a consequence of now living in Moorsholm. Come on everyone, support your local before they all disappear!

Local friendly pub. Had a few different managers however the latest Ange and Tom are fab. Great sense of humour, and just in general a lovely couple. Decent staff makes all the difference. Drinks reasonably priced, and you just know there wont be any chew in there, nice safe place to drink.
