Great location for a large family reunion. Staff were friendly and accommodating. Gets better every time we visit.
I came here for a wedding and stayed for 3 nights. The hotel is very unique in a lovely location. The bar staff and the housekeeper Alison who also does the breakfast are lovely. They can't do enough for you. The bar isn't to big, but they do have an outside sitting area. The food was ok. I did ask for soya milk at breakfast, It was requested before we arrived. To be told they didn't have it .Someone did go out and get it for me. The person bringing the place down is Claire the manageress she's not got a clue in how to run the place. She did the breakfast on he saturday and when I asked for the soya milk she said we don't have any, and wasn't going to look either, lucky Alison was also there and she got it for me. I got the impression she wasn't bothered anyway. I stay in a lot of hotel, this being our third this week.She also messed up my drink in the evening. If we hadn't rung the hotel a month before we came for the booking number, we wouldn't have had a room, lucky Ronnie was able to book us one. We wasn't the only one's either another couple in the wedding party didn't have their room booked either. I felt sorry for the couple who was getting married as it looks like she messed their day up, in a lot of ways. She seems to be thinking of a lot of other things and always rushing you. She didn't even tell us they run out of hash browns. All she wanted was a good review. When the fire alarm went off at 2am, there was no staff on standby, and when we told Claire about it in the morning she didn't really seem like she cared. It could be a nice little hotel if it wasn't for Claire, she's going to run it to the ground.
Firstly a mention that the staff were very helpful and friendly especially Claire and the cleaner. (I would give a 5* to them)food was good. However the accommodation was disgusting. I stayed in a small double room which was very dated. It had avocado bathroom suite, shower that wasn't movable you had to remove it from its holder to rinse the soap out of your hair/off body. Orange Wallpaper peeling at the joins. Sheets looked clean but whatever they wash them in doesn't have a pleasant smell. The room didn't have a fresh smell to it either, i was very conscious that when i got dressed to go out my clothes had the smell of the room on them. . Very old dirty carpet. Very dusty blinds. Cannot understand how this was a winner of Four in a Bed, although apparently some of the rooms on the 1st floor are a bit better. This could be a lovely hotel if it was brought up to a modern standard as ideal for the lovely park at the end of the road. Town centre etc. Has to be one of the worst hotels I have stayed in.
