Gob smacked this place only has 4.2 stars it’s excellent and I love it. We’re lucky as locals to have a pub that caters for us as well as the tourists!! And an open fire 🤩 and they let dogs in which is fab but expect children to be well behaved. Wow - it’s a shame the parents don’t expect this of their own children. Pubs are for adults.
A country pub that allows dogs in but doesn't allow muddy boots. That's a first for me. We were (quite abruptly) asked to remove boots and order drinks in our socks. We decided to retire to the garden where we could keep our footwear on. When we ordered hot drinks we were told "no, we're not serving drinks to the garden" The barman then asked what it was we wanted. We explained some coffees and hot chocolate for the children. We were then advised (again abruptly) that they don't do things like hot chocolate. Again a first for a country pub. Very unwelcoming and get the impression they don't want children on their premises.
Polite friendly staff, lovely atmosphere and great food.
Nice pub , quite large but never the less pleasant. The staff were very helpful and polite even stoking the coal fire on a cold evening even though the pub was quiet. Could imagine it being a good place to come when it was busier, probably a really good atmosphere.
The pub is amazing. It's pet friendly but not exactly kid friendly, more like tolerating children rather than welcoming them. Sometimes it's hard to keep a toddler from roaming around and playing with set cutlery on a remote table when they're hungry and the food takes 40 min after ordering to arrive. The staff were a bit short and encouraged us to 'go sit down and wait for food'. I emphasized I'd like the fish finger meal to come out first, but the table next to us got their fish finger sandwiches way before us even though they arrived and ordered about 20 min later than we did. All in all the food was good, nice selection of pints and having dogs with wagging tails everywhere helps with the ambiance. I think it's an awesome location and offers a great experience, staff needs to embrace their most junior customers or cooperate with the kitchen to speed things up.
