Fronted by a tree-sheltered lawn and surrounded by its own paddock, this 16th Century property’s interior is entirely in keeping with the grade II listed building where none of the charm or Country Inn feel has been compromised. The cosy Charlton Bar with its original flagstone floors and open log fire, is warm and welcoming, serving real ales and outstanding food.
Nestled in the village of Charlton close to the historic town of Malmesbury, this is the perfect base to explore the many delights of both Wiltshire and the neighbouring Cotswolds. For business travellers it’s a little retreat from the hustle and bustle but close to the M4 Corridor. The Horse and Groom Inn is just 15 minutes’ drive from J17 of the M4.
The restaurant provides a relaxed and charming space to sample our delicious menus, whilst our gardens offer the perfect place for al fresco dining in the summer. We have five spacious and stylish bedrooms, each completely unique and with their own large and airy bathroom, complete with roll-top bath. We visited the pub for a lovely dinner with the family. Drinking section was extremely busy but we were seated in a lovely much more quiet restaurant area. The service was unbelievable. Very friendly. We were looked after impeccably. Food wise : fantastic. My son had “ the best burger ever” he said. Scotch egg was lacking maybe a title salad, I usually enjoy it with a few rockets. Pigeon salad really nice - on the website is in the mains section but moved to starters, which is better I think as the portion is quite small for a main. Highlight of the evening was beautifully cooked venison - which I personally recommend. My husband loved pie of the day:). Followed that we ordered ice cream for kids ( limited choice but my son was happy with one, so no issues there ) and we had an amazing sticky toffee pudding. The cake was really moist! Amazing house lager too! We already booked ourselves for a night in May and we are so looking forward to it! Thank you !!
Great food and gorgeous service! We had lunch as family of five including one 6 yr old, one 86 yr old and a 5 month old dalmation and we were made to feel very welcome, nothing was too much trouble and even gave a little treats to the puppy! We’ll definitely be returning, food was excellent and all of our various needs met including allergies. Absolute thumbs up from us all!
Thank you Leanne Danielle and Summer for an amazing Sunday lunch, our Roast Beef was delicious!We were greeted and welcomed so warmly, even whilst you were so busy! The service and hospitality was outstanding and very much appreciated. We absolutely look forward to visiting again.
We love the H&G! It's the closest pub to our home in Minety and love visiting on a Friday night after a busy week of work or a mid-week break from eating at home. The new team that have been in place for a while now are doing a wonderful job. Lovely simple food at a very good price, and along with a lovely atmosphere. Thank you!
We enjoyed a great Sunday lunch as a large group (6 adults and 4 children). The team were attentive, the food was tasty and our dietary requirements - one vegan and one dairy free - were well catered for. I’d definitely recommend this pub
