Very traditional olde worlde English pub with parquet flooring, large inglenook open fireplaces, leather sofas and original low ceiling beams. Excellent high quality food served in very relaxed environment with a warm personal service.
Nestled in the beautiful Chiltern village of Penn Street between Amersham & Beaconsfield, The Hit or Miss is a traditional Buckinghamshire country pub thought to date back to the 18th century.
The Unusual name is born from a cricketing term, inspired by the pub's own cricketing team who still play just opposite the pub, on Sunday afternoons in the summer.
What a lovely place. Had not been for years.it surpassed our expectations. Service exceptional. Food fresh and tasty. Thank you for all your help with our dietary needs. It was lovely to see that dogs can accompany their owners.
Impeccable service. Fantastic food and a great real pun atmosphere. Dogs welcome. This was our first time here to try a local walk with our dog and we were made to feel very welcome. I recommend giving it a try. We were going to have a snack but on seeing the food decided to have a full meal.
A beautiful pub, enhanced by the local cricket on match days. A wonderful place for a drink, and the staff were absolutely lovely, very nice and friendly. BUT Unfortunately the food let the side down, avoid anything cooked. Sharing platters were great, but the burgers were horrendous, and it took over an hour and a half for food. Have a drink, but do not eat here if you want a nice meal.
Went in for lunch, the menu looked great and it comes highly recommended. It has a decent sized car park across the road, and the pub is wheelchair accessible. The outside would be lovely in summer as it's a real sunspot, not to worry as they have a large shade as well. While the staff were fantastic, but the food was, well, hit and miss and took ages. The squid starter was very nice, although it might be too peppery for some. While the pork belly was an excellent sized portion and quality meat it was lukewarm at best and the beef burger was not particularly pleasant, but perhaps the seasoning was just not to our taste. The tea was nice, much better than the squirrel around the corner and the sticky toffee pudding was on par. We saw some nice looking sandwiches with chunky chips go to the neighbouring tables so maybe they are a better bet in the future.
The pub was recommended by a local ; we were from Stamford. It's a super dog friendly venue with above excellent staff who were utterly welcoming, friendly, efficient and great with dogs. The food was the best I've had in a very long time from a pub establishment (I'm in the hospitality industry). Delicious and filling. The menus is not ordinary with great options available for all types and volumes. Very cosy and traditional yet have the capacity to cater for large groups and events. Great Village location too.
