The Wellington at Welwyn (commonly known as ‘The Welly’) offers a powerful marriage of old and new, tradition and contemporary, proper and fresh.
This is evident in the architecture, the food, the drink and the service. The setting is rustic & the service without pretension and of the highest standard.

I cannot fault The Wellington at all. We had a fabulous nights stay, the location makes you feel as if you're properly on holiday. The room was fantastic and had the most amazing bed, so comfortable and warm. The staff were friendly, helpful and courteous and the food was delicious (and reasonably priced). I would not hesitate to recommend it and we will certainly be going back. Absolutely perfect!!!
Myself and hubby have stayed a couple of times for our anniversary. Such a beautiful building.Rooms are stunning.Staff are so kind and welcoming. Breakfast good value for money.Cannot find any faults in the place.wull be staying again soon
Met a friend for coffee on a freezing morning, so rushed into pub from parking car. Meaning we both missed the signs about the car parking being controlled parking. Nothing alerted us to this in the pub, nor did any staff mention the need to input car reg at bar, which we completely missed as told to take a table as soon as we walked in. One week later £60 parking ticket. No receipt and bank statement showed transaction a day later. Decided not to appeal as if it failed the fee went up to £100. Visited pub and told to sort directly with parking company. However I noted a few similar comments on here with a reply from the Wellington to email them. So I did this twice, but no reply. I realise its was my fault, but I think it is pretty poor customer service. How hard is it for their staff to say 'Hello please take a table and if you are using the car park please enter your reg no in the tablet at the bar'! Or even a sign on the table.
The team are nice and I appreciate the varied vegan menu which other local pubs in Welwyn could learn from. The only suggestions I would have is please improve the vegan breakfast. The sausage isn't great. Would much rather prefer a soya based (or any other ingredient) which would add protein to the meal rather than the option at present which feels more like a vegetable finger than a sausage. The other suggestion would be please offer vegan flora with toast otherwise vegans only have the option of dry toast.
Lovely inn, friendly welcoming staff. Room was full of character, bed very comfortable, room well equipped. The only downside, in our opinion, was the arrangement of the toilet behind the non sealed glass door, with no working fan to vent odours, nor washbasin.
