The Hare and Hounds has been on the St Albans maps as a pub since 1650 making it one of the oldest pubs left standing in the city. We are proud of the Wines, Lagers, Ales and Food that we offer. All our food is local and from sustainable sources whenever possible. We are dog and family friendly – baby changing facilities, children’s menu and a large south-facing family garden with 2 climbing frames – so why not spend a lazy afternoon with us, enjoy the atmosphere and just…..relax.
Jan24: Sunday roast - could do better. Lovely new premises and wonderful customer service. Sadly the food let it done. Sunday roast was below par despite staff efforts to improve it. The meat and veggie option not good and cold and under cooked veg. The two disappointing meals were comped, without asking. We chose small size as normal looked amazing but too much. The sprout and roast spuds were top notchand the gravy. Will try again to see how they get on after only taking over mid-Nov.
I had the lamb stew that was on special. £3.45 for a big bowl that was incredibly tasty! When I asked about the size of the serving I was not prepared for how big that sucker was going to be! The whole pub was just a fantastic experience, from the pub dog to the friendly greeting when my family and I walked through the door. Make this place you local.
Local pub feel just off the main drag where yhey just want your money. 6 of us popped in for drinks prior to our Xmas meal (elsewhere) and found friendly staff, numerous groups and a buzzy atmosphere. Last visit prior to the refurbishment has live music....hope that continues.
New landlord!! Just finished a great Sunday roast at H&H, food was lovely and arrived very quickly. Service was wonderful, extremely friendly and attentive staff. There was a table of 20 at the same time and still got great service. Good value for money and very tasty mulled wine. Highly recommended for a local pub Sunday lunch!! (Also dog friendly!)
I had high hopes but unfortunately was disappointed. Can’t believe they charged £6.95 for their signature fries and this was it! A dribble of mayo and parsley. Felt like a total rip off. I had a table for 15 booked for food, but will cancel and go elsewhere.

Hidden away in the back streets of St Albans, you'll find The Garibaldi - a pub that transports guests back to the Victorian era. Think nooks, crannies and cosy corners, a roaring real fire and a great pint of real ale - plus the lost commodity of good Ol
