Welcome to The Chequers, a pub and restaurant that proudly overlooks a valley in the small pretty village of Barley, which lies close to the border of Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire.
The Chequers is only 5 miles from Royston and 20 miles from Cambridge making it very accessible for dining out with friends, family and colleagues.

Had a fantastic Burns Night meal last night, had a wonderful welcome by the new owner (Nick) and his lovely family. His wife is the chef and makes the most beautiful food. Burns night was a set meal for £27. We had Smoked salmon pate with oat cakes, husband had Haggis and I had a large haddock fishcake with poached egg on top with hollandaise sauce. Our dessert was vanilla ice cream with shortbread and brandy snap with a shot of baileys to pour over the ice cream. Since the family took over the pub the atmosphere is delightful, its like being in your own lounge with friends. Warm fire, cozy seating, very friendly service. Thank you for such a lovely evening!!
We went for a couple of quiet drinks and had a lovely time chatting away with the new owners Nick and Jane - would really recommend popping in!
We visited for their Beaujolais Nouveau evening. They served a super meal, the owners and staff were friendly and helpful. We will definitely be visiting again soon.
This is a top pub run by welcoming friendly hosts Sofia and Leo who make every visit a memorable one. If I was local this would be my local. Sofia always remembers my name and my favourite tipple!
Saturday lunchtime, friendly welcome, lovely pint of Hadham Gold, meat bruschetta & caprese salad to start, gammon steak, eggs, chips & peas and pasta as main, all very tasty and filling, will definitely be back 😋

This is a lovely, traditional Olde Worlde English pub and restaurant. Great beer and an awesome menu. Bar billiards, darts and apool table in the back room with a beer garden and kids play area.

In 2014 The Tally Ho was bought by Kevin and Saleesha Hall, who have lovingly refurbished the interior of the pub, whilst retaining many of it's charming original features.
