Located in the charming market town of Hitchin, The Sun hotel is an impressive 16th century coaching inn. Its 32 en suite bedrooms have been styled in keeping with the building's tradition, alongside modern comforts. With two feature bedrooms (one with a four posted bed) and a lively social bar, The Sun hotel is atmospheric and elegant. An excellent menu is served in the restaurant and bar area, whilst the Cromwell Bar also provides a lively atmosphere to enjoy a great selection of cask ales, premium lagers and fine wines.
I’m not sure if the barman was having an off day today but we got the feeling he didn’t want to be there, unwelcoming to the extreme. No greeting zero customer service and just slouched round the bar like a moody teenager.
It's hard to review, as I only went to a small function in the bar area. Service was at best interesting. The only available beer on tap was various "lager" clones. No low or no alchol options were available. The reason given was it: is was christmas.
This is a review for the breakfast, not the hotel. So much wasted potential as they offer a good breakfast at a reasonable price but the service is so lacklustre, it spoils the whole experience. Staff seem to float between the kitchen and bar and pretty much ignore customers sat at table waiting to be served until you call them over. This should not be necessary
Great improvements since I last visited. Finally a happy face behind the bar, Shan was polite cheerful and very good at her job. I’ll be back, it’sa wonderful building and now it seems like it is being run properly.
We just had a one night stay, bedroom not like picure in any way. The bed was quite a small a double 🙈 the room/bathroom in need of refurbishment. The staff however were very freindly and welcoming. Downstairs area was lovely.
