About us

Inside has had a complete refresh following a recent fire, but it retains its pub atmosphere with antique artwork to set the mood. Wooden tables and chairs gleaned from nearby auctions add the tone and an open fire stands ready.

Push past the merry throng frothing at the bar and the elegant freshness of the dining room is revealed. The ying and yang of the modern, essential pub: downhome cheer in the front and refined dining in the back. It's best to book of course, but if you haven't there's rarely a chance of you leaving hungry - the Alford's jolly crew would scarce allow it.

Nab a table in the front parlour or on the terrace when the Great British Summer is in full swing and enjoy the same sense of wellbeing as the fine-diners in their reserved seats. In need of a working lunch - no problem! Your mobile may not have a signal but free wifi will provide a soothing umbilical to the world outside.

Find the Alford and you'll find the seemingly impossible: Bibulous bonhommie and Great British food all served up with a calm, friendly efficiency.

Find it and be content.

Not sure what is wrong with the other reviews as we had nothing but exceptional service and amazing food when we booked a table on a Friday night in December. Although for some reason the website only allowed us to book the outdoor seats the staff did everything they could to get us a table indoors. Since walking in the door everyone was smiling and the staff seem to really enjoy their job. The menu varies and uses locally sourced food so don’t be surprised if some of the menu is not available later in the day especially on a weekend. There are specials not on the menu and the special burger looked amazing! However we stayed with the menu. I didn’t take a picture of my Bubble and Squeak starter but needless to say that dish alone felt like a meal. The perfectly poached egg and creamy hollandaise sauce was absolute heaven. Next it was onto the main course. I opted for the turkey and a side of the chilli cauliflower whilst my partner thoroughly enjoyed the Mac and Cheese with a side of thin fries. The fries are beautifully cooked a light colour may make you think that they are undercooked but believe me that is far from the truth. Perfectly crispy and tasty and enough to satisfy two stomachs. Back to the roast turkey dinner and that was also very good, the roast potatoes instantly took me back to those at my grandparents. The type that has a thick crispy coating and perfectly fluffy innards and dipped into the Red Wine gravy was a sensation. I could have a mug of that gravy sat by a warm fire it was that good. Having finished the second course I was quickly running out of space in my stomach, Ian our server brought over the desert menu to tempt us and Christmas pudding was soon ordered! The pudding was delightful and light. The brandy butter had melted around and mixed in with the small jug of cream liberally applied. This finished me off and even the next morning I am still full. I cannot praise the Alford Arms enough. The staff are brilliant watching the camaraderie between the staff was entertainment itself. We will certainly be back to this hidden haven.

A local favorite that was such a pleasant surprise. Small and popular, reservations are a must and well worth the planning. What felt like an upscale restaurant hidden under the guise of a pub. 🤫

Lovely pub, with a high price tag Pros: - good quality food - lovely location - nicely decorated and good outdoor atmosphere Cons - the price (attached pic was £21!! It's gnocchi with a few mushrooms and small portion of meat). Average £20+ for a main - very busy in and around peak times - quite a 'standard british' menu (roast, bangers and mash, fish etc) - difficult parking on a very congested road Conclusion - lovely pub which obviously can afford to charge a massive premium for it's popularity.

Great food and amazing service! We had the bubble and squeak, courgette linguine and pork loin. All were good. Will recommend!

Lovely pub with excellent food, we had pork bites to start, burger & lamb tagine for mains, and lemon posset & choc mousse for desert. All was delicious, with a few drinks each the bill came to £100 which wasn’t too bad! Only let down was the service - seemed understaffed and the waiters weren’t very attentive, had to flag them down to ask for drinks, menus, and to order!
