Room was nice a good size and warm, the bed was comfy and the breakfast was good, but there were problems. 1. The bedroom windows were so poorly fitted you could hear every car that drove past (the noise level was the same when the window was open) 2. The room wasn't all that clean, there were cobwebs and spiders everywhere, and the toilet seat was quite stained. 3. All the members of staff spoke really quietly and we couldn't hear what they were saying half the time (and it didn't seem like they were listening most of the time)
Having read reviews of this hotel before my stay I was a little apprehensive about the stay. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. Check-in was swift, the room was clean and tidy and had all the amenities I expected. I bed was comfy. What did let the hotel down was the standard of the cooked breakfast the following morning. Dry and shriveled bacon and sausage, although halfway through the meal the chef did come out and offer to cook fresh items. An ok stay.
Rooms are standard and clean. Room was really warm because the towel rail in the bathroom is on constantly. We were given a room with one big bed when we asked for a family room with 2 children. They did offer another room but the room with the big bed was actually better. They didn't have a cot, just as well we brought the travel cot. Oh, they put us on the 1st floor, with no lifts for the buggies it was a pain. Breakfast was good though, buffet style with good choice.
Had our wedding at this venue in July 2017, I must say the grounds are lovely and I was generally happy with the look of the venue (from the outside). However, the hotel staff and management are extremely poor. Our wedding coordinator changed 3 times within the year of planning which meant starting from scratch each time, anyone planning a wedding will know how frustrating this alone can be. I was warned about poor room booking management so I went over and over with the room lists with them before the wedding yet they majorly failed us and our guests on the day. I was not giving the bridal room initially shown, rooms were double booked - leaving some guests room-less, people were being given keys to rooms that were already occupied, there was no hot water in one whole block from Friday through to Sunday. In addition, friends found cockroaches in there room! This is just to name a few! The hotel is extremely dated too. The hotel staff were accommodating in terms of giving us early access to the venue and storing items for us. However, on the day of our wedding our evening reception was cut short meaning we had to skip our last dance altogether. They also forced my family to clear out the marquee straight after the reception in the pouring rain despite previous agreement of this being cleared in the morning. The venue, poor management and staff was the only thing that let us down throughout the wedding period and on the wedding day itself. I have been contacting them to resolve this issue since returning from my honeymoon but have had no luck with getting a response or solution. I’ve noticed they have deleted their reviews off their Facebook page too!
The Watermill is franchised to use the Best Western company name. For a budget hotel there is little to complain about that you would otherwise expect. The bathroom suite is probably due for upgrading - no power shower (only the type direct from tap link). The radiator in the room was faulty - this was reported and soon addressed. The corporate facilities are fair, and tea and coffee is supplied throughout the day for such events. Sleep quality not excellent, however being here during a particularly bad storm there is no surprise to the fact I could hear the wind and rain thrashing everything outside. Bed is of good quality and room service is prompt. Cleaning performed daily to a reasonable standard. The only thing I would say was excellent was the food, very well prepared and presented at lunch and dinner, the waiting staff are very keen to tend to your requirements. Summary: Budget hotel, quiet setting, OK room, good food.
