About us

The Herdwick Inn is the only so named pub in The Lake District: an area synonymous with the rugged and sturdy Herdwick Sheep.

Located in the small, friendly village of Penruddock, the pub is situated just off the A66 between the Ancient Market town of Penrith and Keswick on the shores of Derwent Water. Only 6 miles from Lake Ullswater and 12 Miles from Derwent water, this is a perfect base for all kinds of water-based and walking activities. We also boast excellent transport links to the nearby towns as well as some of the Lake District’s most famous peeks.

I had the pleasure of dining at the Herdwick Inn with my girlfriend, and it was an exceptional experience. The service was top-notch, and the food was simply amazing. I can confidently say it was a five-star service all the way. The inn itself carries a charming, old-world ambiance, beautifully decorated with classic touches that added to the overall charm. It's a perfect setting for aa special meal. I would highly recommend the Herdwick Inn for anyone looking for a delightful dining experience. It's a place where great service and fantastic food come together in a classic and inviting atmosphere. A memorable evening indeed. Five stars!

We managed to find this little gem of a pub as we were staying in the local area. From the outside it seems like your classic little local pub and inside is even better. The car park had plenty of space to park several vehicles, the rear garden outside area was spacious as well which I can imagine is beautiful in the summer when it's beaming down. We found a nice little spot to sit down and became to look through the menu. The menu was very carefully chosen with a good variety of food that catered for all. We were not that hungry but after seeing the gammon and the pie come out, this QUICKLY got eaten all up. Very flavourful food, great service from the young Irish man. I forget this name but he recently came over from Ireland with his girlfriend. He was very polite, kind and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble for him and he made us feel at home after a long day of travelling up here. Food was very good quality and made with love. The drinks selection was very good as well. Thank you so much, we will be back to try rest of the food!
