About us

The Harrow has welcomed visitors for over four centuries and still to this day retains many of its orginal features, such as its flint face and open wood burner. Originally in its place stood two cottages with a horse trough but over the centuries many changes have been made including the restaurant area which was converted from an previously standing outhouse.
The Harrow Inn also has close historical links with WWII. There is a map within the pub that shows that during the war the Home Guard actually used the Harrow as their HQ!
The Harrow is situated at the top of the hill and is known to be the second highest pub in Surrey. It stands very near to Pilgrims Way which is in its own a very historical walk way after being used for thousands of years by many civilisations. This closely linked historical path is one of the reasons why so many people walk the North Downs route and stopping by the Harrow seems to only add to the experience.

I had one of the best burgers ever, the food was brilliant, nice people. They also had gluten free so my sister was happy.

Unusual management policy? Visit 04/12/23 My wife and I visited following a shopping visit nearby. My wife's Aunt age 90 accompanied us for lunch. Ordered drinks at the table. On delivery my wife asked for a child's menu for her Aunt - (reason) Medical condition + (at 90) can only eat a child's portion of food. The waitress politely declined our request stating management policy. Under 13 years old only can order from the child's menu. Ok - but under the circumstances. My principles set in. I politely declined all the menus. My wife's Aunt is very mobile and regularly visits many food establishments with her friends. In 3 years of having the condition the option to order from a children's menu has never been a problem. We enjoyed our drinks and respectfully paid the £16.45 drinks bill (instead of an estimated £80+ lunch bill). Consequently we moved on to Warlingham resulting without any problems ordering from a child's menu. Final bill £87. Two full paying adults and a child or in our case a 90 year old lady. I would be interested in an explanation from management of The Harrow. This policy can only conclude as a business negative. I feel the management should reconsider the policy going forward as certain situations require common sense. Christmas is a time for family gatherings up to possibly 10+ - including seniors who cannot eat an adult meal anymore. Child portions should be made available for paying customers who want to eat a small meal. Many established food restaurants offer small or large portion options added to the main menu list. This could be worth a consideration going forward. I thank you in advance on this matter.

What a jem, just got back from a meal at the Harrow, and had to leave a review. The meal was fantastic. The special, a pheasant pie was amazing. Was informed it would be a slight wait as cooked to order but happy to sit and enjoy the drinks (nice bottle of red and the ale was spot on) Dog friendly, always a plus for us, but felt really bad at the end of the meal. There was no option to leave a tip on the card machine, and we only had minimal cash. Our server, a young chap, had been spot on and deserved more than we left. Will be back again for sure.

Thank you so much to the landlady Rachel manager Zoe and the excellent staff who looked after us so well for my husband's surprise party today. From booking to the event we received first class customer service. Lots of attention to detail and thoughtful personal service. The room was decorated beautifully and the food was excellent. A really lovely personal and caring experience. Thank you so much.

We came here for a late lunch after a friend said the food here was excellent. Service was a bit slow, it felt like a long wait until our order was taken. Smoked haddock pate was lovely. Accompanying chutney wasn't and didn't get eaten. Burgers were very nice but the amount of cheese in the cheeseburger and Stilton in the blue burger was rather meagre and could barely be tasted. Was surprised not to be asked how I wanted burger cooked, normally expect a choice of medium or well done but without being asked it was perfect. Tried the 4 dessert platter. One was unavailable so two of one given. The crumble was very nice but the piece of sticky toffee pudding was about half the size of my thumb and as it was advertised as "suitable for sharing" with less than a teaspoon each this seemed a bit of a stretch. Baileys Hot chocolate was a nice end to meal. The decor was odd. Pictures clearly taken down as holes in walls and lights still present. Painted stone wall was just ugly. Overall it was okay but a few tweaks here and there could make it much better.
