Very disappointed to visit the Hare for a sandwich with my husband to see only three available on the menu. Not fancying either a 'fishfinger' sandwich, a chicken and bacon sandwich nor a sirloin steak ciabatta, we asked if a plain cheese and tomato sandwich could be accommodated. Stale bread, very dry (so much so we asked for mayonnaise) and only to later be charged £10.25 PER Sandwich. When I questioned why we had been charged for a chicken, bacon and avocado I was told that the chef 'was doing us a favour by accommodating our cheese sandwich'. I was absolutely gob-smacked....very rude. The charge cannot be justified and therefore we will NOT be returning anytime soon.

Such a lovely place, staff and food amazing. The manager gave us a complimentary glass of bubbles for our Anniversary too... just so nice. Been coming here for years and that will continue x

Lovely venue, great views over the country side. Great place for the smaller appetites. You can order a Mini Meal here which was ideal for me and my friend. Lovely friendly staff too.

Enjoyed a festive meal at The Hare, ribs fell off the bone and melted in the mouth, truffle & parmesan chunky chips were delicious and apple crumble with ice cream was yummy. Service good and will return!

Noticed this beautiful looking place whilst driving past. . Decided to stop by for lunch on our way back. On entering, first impressions were good. Period building, with lovely wooden beams and furnishings to match. Several patrons both inside and outside, so obviously a very popular eating and drinking place. We were quickly attended to by a friendly waitress who asked if we'd booked a table. We said we hadn't, but were offered a table immediately, with the only condition that we vacate the table before 1930. This wasn't a problem as it gave us an easy 90 mins. Our order for starters was taken and was promptly served. My girlfriend had a delicious homemade soup and I tried the Leigh on_sea battered cockles. Although the soup was lovely, my starter only tasted of batter balls which was a disappointment. For our Mains I ordered a ploughman's lunch and my girlfriend ordered the small steak and ale pie with mash and peas. Unfortunately the supplied gravy wasn't nearly enough so she had to ask for more. Being picky, I must say I found it necessary to ask for a fork to eat my ploughman's, finding it strange I wasn't supplied with one. The ale that was recommended was beautiful and would have enjoyed more, if I hadn't been driving. Having said all of that, I must say I was very impressed with the manageress when she deducted the price of the battered cockles from the bill which was £6 Overall we found it to be a very enjoyable meal in a very warm and friendly atmosphere and wouldn't hesitate in recommending to anyone passing by in the picturesque village of Roxwell.
