About us

When we opened The Hand and Flowers in 2005, we wanted it to be exactly the kind of place where we would like to enjoy our days off. That meant a proper pub, but with proper food. A friendly, comfortable atmosphere, where everybody’s welcome. Bold, unpretentious cooking with brilliant, seasonal ingredients. Professional but approachable service from people who love to eat out as much as we do.

Since opening, our approach has won us many loyal friends. We’re proud to be the first pub with two Michelin stars, but our food is for everyone to enjoy, and our pub is still a relaxed and accessible environment where everybody's welcome.

Third visit here, went for the set lunch experience this time. Polite, friendly and attentive staff, amazing food, relaxed atmosphere. What more can I say? My favourite high end place to eat!

My partner took me for Sunday lunch as a Christmas gift after always wanting to eat at a Michelin star restaurant and watching Mr Kerridge on the Great British Menu. The pub was beautiful decorated and the staff was very attentive, as you'd expect from a place with such high accolades. Call me old fashioned but when the menu costs £175pp | expect a proper fine card paper menu to hold instead of searching the menu on my phone by a OR code. I started with the Duck Liver Parfait with Orange Chutney and Toasted Brioche which was super smooth and delicious, but as always the ratio of parfait to brioche was not enough, thankfully I still had some of the complimentary sourdough they placed on the table to finish the parfait. My partner had the Cornish "Tin Mine" Tart with Spiced Date Sauce, Soft Cheddar and Crispy Beef and that was delicious and sad I didn't order it. For our mains we both chose Treacle Cured Chateaubriand of Beef with Smoked Brisket and Yorkshire Pudding and it came with roast potatoes, three to be precise, and some delicious buttered cabbage that I can't think of the name right now. I had never had it before but it was delicious; however, I was surprised to see we only had three roast potatoes for the both of us. The roast potatoes were cooked to perfection, absolutely perfectly fluffy on the inside and crisp perfection on the outside, I just wish we had more than one and half each! Everyone knows the roasties are essential to Sunday roasts. To finish, I ordered the Hand & Flowers Chocolate & Ale Cake with Pedro Ximenez and Rebellion Beer Ice Cream. Unfortunately, i was NOT a fan of this dessert and had to give it to my partner to finish. I know chocolate goes well with ale but it just did t taste right for me and I was devastated by it. My partner ordered the Banana Soufflé with Vanilla Custard Ice Cream and Milk Chocolate & Plantation Original Dark Rum Sauce, I tried some and it was very yummy. It had the perfect amount of banana flavor. EVERYTHING was cooked to perfection as one might expect from a Michelin star rated place, but unfortunately what was more memorable was the total bill and not the actual food. The food was prepared beautifully but in my opinion it lacked depth of flavor. I've had far more memorable meals that live rent free in my mind for a fraction of the price, and even if I was on twice my income, I still wouldn't go back to dine here. Glad I got to experience it though.

We had an exceptional meal at The Hand and Flowers - one the best meals I’ve ever had. Exquisite service and immaculately prepared dishes (with a wine menu that is of the same quality). We will definitely be checking out other restaurants run by the Tom Kerridge team.

Exceptional experience visiting The Hand and Flowers. The staff were friendly, welcoming, and very attentive. The atmosphere was relaxed and comfortable. We stayed over in one of The Cottages, and the level of comfort and thought that went into the decor and amenities was worthy of 2 stars 🌟. The food, well, everything was delicious, and as it was my birthday, they added some extra little touches. It was a fantastic experience, and we will definitely visit again.

Visited for wife’s birthday with friends on a Saturday in September 2023. Already eaten at The Coach and The Shed plus a regular at the Butchers Tap so was very excited to visit the H&F. We had an amazing night and really enjoyed ourselves. The only reason for the 3 stars was that the food was great but we were not blown away as we were expecting. Starters were great although the omelette was very rich, the pork was stand out! The risotto was amazing. The desserts were very disappointing, the toffee tart had a weird sharp tasting sorbet which didn’t go with the toffee. Amazing night but £475 per couple? Hmm not sure.
