A traditional Free House dating back to 17th century, the George & Dragon is located in the beautiful countryside between the market/racing town of Newbury & Basingstoke
The Shore family have owned the business for nearly 30 years and in that time the pub has seen many changes from not only development of courtyard barns into accommodation but expansion to the pub too, with the aim to cater to all your needs whether it be a family lunch, quiet relaxing dinner, private function, weekend away, club event or simply a pint of our well kept ales.
After the recent completion of an extension to the premises we now have a separate function room for hire, whether it be a business meeting, special occasion or private party we have the room for you.

My partner and I came here for lunch on a sunny day. Our meal was very nice and the garden was a lovely place to be. It’s a huge garden, and while there’s no ‘play facilities,’ there’s so much space for kids to run around, away from the seating area but in view. It’s also a beautiful location. We look forward to returning. @nicolecorrienengland
The pub is lovely very friendly staff and the food and beer was great so would highly recommend having food here or even a cheeky pint. My room wasn't bad to be honest if you wanted to be picky could say 1 of the bathroom lights didn't work and some of the lights flicker but that didn't seem to bother me, it would of been nice for the heating to kick in a little more though as I woke up cold a number of times as it was -4 outside and the heating was on a timer . I would stay here again (in the summer) as I did enjoy my stay
Stayed here overnight boxing day and for breakfast. Only visitors eating but the whole pub was opened for us, sat by the fire and had our grub which was excellent. Nice little room with en suite and plenty of parking. Would definitely stay again were made very welcome 🤗
We have had a lovely stay at the George and dragon. Started off with a lovely meal on Thursday night. The staff where very accommodating and served delicious food promptly. Rooms where great and breakfast was even better! 10/10 would stay again.
This is a lovely privately owned country pub and rooms. My room was warm, very clean, neat and tidy, and had everything I needed in it. The staff are really very lovely, and the food is really very good. There is a separate breakfasting room which looks out on to the garden. Why give your money to a chain? It does need a wee bit of a freshen up, but I understand that the new owners have just taken over. The kitchen is being renovated as we speak.
