We ordered from the £5 menu, and the food was pretty good for the price. It came out very quickly with some friendly staff checking up on us and was hot. There are some booths with TV screens for the little ones which is great. Some of the cushions and furniture looked a bit tired. The play area attached has a ball pit, which is free to use but was not the cleanest, see photo. The pub itself was clean, though.
Breakfast with Claire and Pam is always very well organised and they are both very friendly and helpful. All the rest of the staff too many to list on the hotel side are also brilliant. Really can’t fault the place for how helpful and friendly the staff are
Good stuff! The room I was in was gigantic (executive double), it had a huge bath (I'm a fat lump and I didn't touch the sides) king-size bed, sofa, and good TV. It did look like it had been decorated by Jacob Rees-Mogg, and it wouldn't surprise me in the least if the hotel is haunted, but I thought this just added to the character of the place. Super helpful staff, I rang a few months before I arrived to see if I was allowed to take a bike into my room with me (you can) and when I turned up on the day they'd made a note of this on their system and moved me into a downstairs room so I didn't have to carry it up the stairs. I thought this was excellent customer service and appreciated it a lot. Wi-Fi was also absolutely solid, and comparable to what I have at home. Checking in and out times are also very generous compared to other places I've stayed, so overall I was pretty chuffed and happily gave it 5 stars across the board, with the caveat the decor in the room might not be to everyone's taste.
Was exactly what I needed and wasn't far from the function that I attended. The staff was friendly and helpful and the food in the restaurant part was a little slow but the food was excellent
The hotel was really nice and although the decor was a little tired it was not as bad as other reviews have said. The staff were fantastic and so helpful and the rooms were really nice and large. The pub next door deserves a special mention as the staff were really accommodating and so helpful and made our evening fun and comfortable and went out of their way to get the rugby on a TV for us and kept us entertained

Hidden away in a residential area and therefore making it one of Portsmouth's least-known pubs, this former Brickwood's house is very much a locals' local. Now a genuine free house, the pub still retains its original public bar and smaller lounge.
