Beautifully restored 16th Century coaching inn at the heart of Lyndhurst & the New Forest! With the best selection of beers in town and food like no other!
We've got probably the largest selection of beers in the New Forest. Choose from five cask ales on tap, and an exceptional craft beer range from some of the world’s best and smallest micro-breweries.
We’re a hop-lovers heaven – but there’s plenty for lager fans too. Enjoy a pint of Fuller’s unique Frontier, our great American pale ale, Sierra Nevada, or for something different, how about a pint of Camden Brewery's Gentleman's Wit? They’re all here just waiting to be sampled – along with our range of bespoke Fox’s Fizzes soft drinks, and superb, hand-selected wines.
One of the best pubs for food in the New Forest, The Fox and Hounds makes local produce the hero. Hampshire is home to some of the finest produce in the country, and we’re proud to showcase as much as possible on our menus.
Our meat comes from the award-winning Owton’s Butchers of Southampton, our fish are some of the freshest around, and even our eggs are from just down the road at Fluffett’s Farm.
You can enjoy it all in the stunning surroundings of our dining area, set around a unique rotisserie oven. Or if the sun shines, join us on our terrace – our very own sun-trap oasis in the heart of the New Forest.

Really helpful and accommodating staff. Excellent service. Lovely food. The atmosphere rating was a 3 when we went as there was a very loud group of children and parents there. I would think the atmosphere would be lovely otherwise.
An extremely warm and welcoming pub, certainly one to visit if you are staying in Lyndhurst for more than a few days. The food is absolutely fantastic and they have an excellent selection of drinks on tap. A perfect place to stop in after a nice walk in the countryside..
The pub is very nice, lovely inside, the staff were very polite and the food came out in good time but that's where the good times ended. I ordered the Ploughman's, which was described as a sharing meal, for 2. What you get is 1 scotch egg, cut in half, some soggy salt beef, bread that was wet, like it had been defrosted, a pile of wilted rocket and cheese, albeit a good portion of cheese. That was it, for £24 it felt like a big over charge and sub-par food. My mrs ordered a bacon, brie and cranberry sandwich, which was ok but nothing to write home about. All in all, the two meals, 2 drinks and 1 soft drink came to nearly £60 and I honestly can't understand how it can be justified, we've eaten better food, multiple courses for less money and enjoyed it more. Maybe we had a bad day there, I don't know, but with other options on the same street I can't imagine ever going back.
The food was excellent. The chips were so delicious. Great slight crunch on the outside and thick and soft inside. The schnitzel was pleasant. A slight pinch of salt would have been better, but there was salt and pepper on the table. The staff was nice. The seating area was also very nice too.
We liked this pub so much that we visited twice on a weekend, for food and drinks. Great pub food choices and a really cool design. The sandwiches we tried were delicious, and they had two different gluten free options. I tried the salt beef with emmental in the gluten free bun and it was very tasty. Highly recommended
