About us

Probably the oldest building in Farnborough, being some 400-years old and reputably the venue of first recognised world heavyweight boxing contest, as well as being a regular stop over for Dick Turpin. Originally consisting of three separate bars, the pub has now been knocked into one, whilst still retaining different character in each area. The ship was reopened in October 2015 after an extensive refurbishment and is a popular community local, with friendly staff and good food in a convivial atmosphere. Pool and darts are on offer, with live sport on different screens. There is a large car park, a regular bus service stops outside and the pub is about 10 minutes walk from Frimley Station. The pub was confirmed as an Asset of Community Value in June 2016.

As an occasional drinker at this pub I was extremely disappointed yesterday when upon leaving with my daughter, I got a knock on my car door window by the landlady who rebated me for using the car park as a non customer. I guess she had wrongly assumed I was using the car park to collect my daughter from college without using the pub… From a customer perspective this was rude, impolite and ended with no apology, also it appeared she took a picture of my car/ number plate after I said I had been using the pub, making me feel uneasy and unwelcome. I know how hard it is to make a small business profitable and want to support the dying hospitality business as much as possible. After this experience it will be somewhere other than The Ship Inn. Incidentally, I did notice others who were using the car park to collect their kids from college whist not using the pub, but also observed the car park was still mostly empty. Can I suggest that; 1. If the pub is part of the community then why can’t they do this as it doesn’t impact your business?…. and 2. Encourage those who use your car park to become customers - perhaps put a sign up saying ‘have a drink whist you wait’ (which incidentally I was doing!) or even offer a small discount to temp them in. Beats Sales Prevention any day of the week!

Friendly local pub. Good "old school" pub how pubs should be not a restaurant a pub, just snacks and a pint or spirit. Great staff! Also good for a weekend knees up. Family owned good vibes
