dined here twice this week - staff so pleasant and helpful. food good and the menu had more choice than most pubs. chicken kiev was good and the chocolate mousse. will definitely return - and it was warm and cosy unlike some pubs and restaurants lately.

Our walking party arrived for lunch, thoroughly soaked after getting caught in a huge downpour. We were welcomed in and a heater was put on to help us dry off. Food excellent and drinks the same. They even arranged a cab for us as none of us wanted to carry on with the walk. 5 stars all round.

Good old style English boozer with an amazing range of Sunday roasts. We had the roast chicken and roast beef with lots of vegetables, thick tasty gravy and super roast potatoes. Music on a Sunday too. Not many of these old pubs left now so make the most of them. Excellent service and ideal for families. Highly recommended for Sunday lunch.

Solid, pretty, not terribly exciting Shepherd Neame pub in the centre of Westcliff-on-Sea (Southend) with a typical cask selection of the company's ales. Most of these have been around for decades, and I chose my favourite, Bishop's Finger ESB. A solid option if you're into darker ales. The pub has generous and fairly comfortable seating inside, as well as two smallish outside seating areas on either side of the building. Good community atmosphere, friendly staff. If you're into traditional ales, not craft beers, this is a good option in this small town. It's within walking distance of the train station.
