About us

The Half Moon in Sherborne is a welcoming, friendly pub with drinks aplenty and food to suit every appetite. We serve homely, tasty food ranging from fish and chips to roast chicken so if you don’t fancy spending hours in the kitchen and dealing with a ton of washing up, why not visit and let us take the stress away? We are masters when it comes to keeping real ale and will happily suggest the best pint, or glass of wine, to go with your meal.

We are a stone’s throw from the beautiful Sherborne Abbey so if you are visiting for the day, whether in the height of summer or on a chilly winter’s day, we have something to suit. We also have 13 comfortable, ensuite guest rooms so if you’ve had a busy day exploring, you can head back and get a proper, good night’s sleep.

We had a good pub meal here, service was quick, the team looked after us well and they were very attentive to our requirements, specifically relating to my son’s allergies. A good place to refuel and a warm welcome.

We visited on a wet day and went into the pub to escape the rain. We had a lovely lunch and a drink. The service was excellent very quick to receive our food. Very nice lunch and will definitely visit again when we visit Sherborne.

Some confusion on booking I did state I would have 2 small well behaved dogs but upon arrival was told no dogs allowed in in restaurant ? With a pool table just next door ?? Food was a limited choice but was well prepared unfortunately we were sat in bar area where the locals frequent one builder top totoe front and back in mud and the foul language was often and loud ,limited choice on the ales too staff were very pleasant but I don't think we will be visiting again anytime soon

I have been coming here for over 30 years. A lot has obviously changed over the years. This is our go-to place for lunch. The staff are very welcoming. Lots of choice on the menu. Very reasonably priced. Very clean. Very relaxing. Kid friendly. Disabled friendly. Dog friendly.

We came for our evening meal using the vouchers put through the letter box. We entered a lively pub with a warm and friendly atmosphere. And although our choices were chosen from a fairly standard pub menu, the food was cooked and presented well. It tasted good to the pallet, we cleared our plates! And we will definitely come back to visit soon.
