Comfortable and well appointed late 19th century residential hotel. Alongside the building is part of Chepstow's 13th century fortifications, enclosing the old town and the building is adjacent to the ancient town arch. The George re-opened in April 2008 after an extensive refurbishment by the then owners Smith & Jones, it is now in the hands of a small pub company. The spacious interior offers several sections in which to drink and dine. The menu is extensive and lists popular traditional pub meals both light and main, plus a separate pizza menu. TVs are dotted around to bring sports channels while background music adds to the atmosphere. A beer festival is held at the time of Halloween. The number of ales can vary from 2 to 4 depending on the time of week or anticipated activity with e.g. rugby internationals or seasonal tourism. Ales are usually sourced from national concerns and the very keen prices can bring smiles to customers' faces.

Wednesday is steak night and we has 10 oz rump on a sizzle platter. Fantastic, one of the best I have ever had. Great, friendly service. Totally recommend The George.
Me and a couple of friends went to steak night last night Wow!!! Was absolutely amazing Amazing value for money Steak cooked to perfection 👌 We had tomahawk shown in picture Medium to rare So worth the visit Staff are so friendly and welcoming
Not very good, won't be returning. Veg was cold, although they did warm it back up in microwave, rest of dinner not as nice as it used to be. Although quiet service was slow. The waitress said the head chef was off this might explain. ???
We popped in for a late lunch on Friday 29th September after a long walk along the River Wye. Jess was great from start to finish - happy, smiley and couldn't do enough to help! She gave our dog a lot of attention and even brought him over a bowl of water, which was a really nice touch. The food was delicious, the pub was cosy and nicely decorated, and the service was great. Reasonably priced, too. We'd definitely go again.
We've popped in for breakfast and enjoyed it, but we booked Sunday lunch yesterday, and It was even better. Beautiful cuts of lamb, beer, or Pork Huge Yorkshire pudding on the top and plenty of gravy! Will definitely be back soon. The service was great as well. Very attentive and pleasant.
