So to say we came as a family of 5adults 5 children. We came on Sunday and didn't realise they only serve roasts on this day. We had the roast and it was very disappointing. The meats, Beef, Turkey, Pork looked like it was from a packet, 2 pototaes, 2 bits of parsnip,3 strips of small carrot, peas , a bit of cabbage and Yorkshire pud this was a small plate meal at £10.95 medium plate was the same and cost £15.95.
The falsely advertised ad, states disabled facilities yet there are none, I had to bum shuffle up 10stairs to get the the room and back down, no food on site didn't get there till evening to find the pub shut at 8.30. It was not clean and the full English breakfast we payed for was continental which was inedible, mouldy bread put out the night before, and gone off curdled milk so no cup of tea either. Complained yet still false advertising and no refund oh and be carefull of the black mould. No signal on the TV.
I visited with family this week and was very disappointed with the service. We waited for menus for at least 10mins. Not one waitress had a smile on their face. We ordered 2 of the steak specials. One of the steaks was ordered to be medium well and when we received said steak it was medium rare so asked for it to be cooked further to be told “so you want it cooked well done?” I said “I think this steak is more medium rare” to which I was replied to rudely with “I think our chef knows what she’s doing”. We also waited 40mins on desserts which weren’t to the best standards. Whilst there we also noticed rudeness from the waitresses to customers arriving.
I spent two days at The Grove, whilst on a business trip. I always prefer a pub with rooms because I expect a better atmosphere and friendlier service than a hotel. The Grove didn't disappoint. Clean, comfortable bedrooms, good food, nice beer and friendly staff. I enjoyed the little courtyard garden at the rear and exceptional breakfast.
We (me any my two humans) stayed here for a weekend and had a really super time. The staff were very friendly, the food and drink was good, there are some great walks direct from the pub (eg up to Win Green and its amazing views), and best of all I got given a special cooked doggy breakfast each morning! I'm sure we'll be back again soon.
