The Pub

The Green Man in Dunchurch is a traditional village pub whose history goes back over 400 years. At one time it was the main coaching inn for the village being on the London to Holyhead turnpike.

The Pub is located in the centre of the Midlands with easy access to M1, M6, M42, M40 motorway network and the A14, with Coventry and Birmingham Airports within close reach.

The Green Man lies around ten miles south east of Coventry with many of the local houses built in the 18th century, however a short walk around will reveal some interesting timber framed properties dating back to the 17th century. Dunchurch is a quiet village and is designated a conservation area complete with village stocks and maypole which has had a tremendous contribution to the regular winning of the prestigious best kept Warwickshire village award.

History

Dunchurch, despite its tranquil setting, has a dark secret, for it was here in 1605 that the co-conspirators in the Guy Fawkes gunpowder plot waited to hear news of his venture to blow up the houses of Parliament.

At one time, because of its unique and well positioned location on the coaching route, the village of Dunchurch was an important staging post and it is said that at one time there were 40 coaching inns in the village – virtually every property in fact.

2 miles West of Dunchurch is Draycote Water. The reservoir is managed by Severn Trent to supply Rugby with water and covers more than 600 acres with a capacity of 5,000 million gallons which attracts people from all over the UK who enjoy a spot of fishing.

Draycote Water is excellent for bird spotting and is one of the best locations in the Midlands for Winter wildfowl and gulls and for migrating birds on Spring and Autumn passage. Boating, yachting, all types of water sports as well as other activities such as cycling around the lake can also be done here, so there is no shortage of things to do.

Great traditional pub. Let's support the green man.... but not if you are a recovering alcoholic though. That would not be a good idea

We were a large party so had to be on 2 tables but the food looked great and tasted delicious. Lovely prawn cocktail and massive plate of venison casserole with perfect mash.
