Voted Best Pub In Dulwich by Time Out and The Londonist. A gorgeous Victorian pub just off Lordship Lane. Incredible food, great people.
In a similar fashion to its 1851 namesake, the Great Exhibition is a glorious space in which free thinking people can celebrate the wonders of life. The exhibits today may not be as weird and wonderful as those that came from the four corners of the world all those years ago, but if you like to witness great food, beer and service in a convivial atmosphere and an off the wall environment, then the Great Exhibition has all the exhibits you need.
With imagery that nods to great exhibitionists old and new and décor references to the exhibition itself, the comfortable and quirky interior of the Great Exhibition invites East Dulwich residents to join The Great Ex team in continuing a celebration of life.
Great Sunday Lunch. We tried the roast beef, roast pork belly and fish and chips. The beef and fish and chips were both very good, the pork belly was tender with crispy crackling and served with plenty of vegetables and a large Yorkshire Pudding, portions are definitely generous. My only comment was perhaps there was too much gravy already on the plate, but it did not detract from the overall quality of the food. The pub is really busy and clearly very popular with local families so booking is essential. During our time there, tables were constantly being turned to accommodate more customers. Staff were friendly and informative about drinks selections and food was served promptly given who busy the pub was. Loved the buzzy atmostphere and decor, it really did this wonderful building proud. They also have a garden and outside seating in front of the pub (with a small marquee) neither of which we tried as it was very cold. A great visit, and good pub for families in the area but don’t forget to book in advance.
This is a great pub with a lovely welcoming atmosphere and it also does a great burger. The prices are a little higher but my main issue is on two occasions I have visited towards the end of service and have been asked to move inside due to the noise rules, of course this is understandable. Only to see a group of people outside with their drinks, when I asked I was told they were the owners. The same thing happened a few weeks later when I was moved in from The garden and later the same group from before were in the garden. I don’t have an issue with being moved indoors and of course understand it’s a residential area but I do not appreciate the double standard, it’s very unprofessional.
Great Sunday roast. We had Beef, Lamb and a Fish (Haddock) & Chips - all were great. Other review pics show a decent amount of gravy - and it's more than I would normally ask for/want, but didn't overpower the dish. Ambiance was great, lots of dogs, some families with kids and all-adult groups. Service was quick and the pub is really nice.
Just popped in for Sunday lunch with my parents as they visited. Hustling and bustling, great atmosphere and very tasty food. Great portions and very happy helpful staff. Really lovely place to pop for a Sunday roast. The whole family had a great time. Also worth popping for a drink other nights of the week, for a quiet one on a Wednesday or for one of their events one of the wider days of the week. The staff are always very helpful and welcoming! 5/5, would recommend. (But remember to book a table in advance!)
Aside from the pre-booked party that I was attending the pub was lively and the food coming out looked delicious! If our party food was anything to go by, I would give The Great Exhibition 6 stars! 😄 The pub was clean and well kept. The barstaff were helpful and friendly. On the day we were there, there was problems with the handwashing facilities but I understand this was quickly resolved. Would absolutely recommend as a function facility!
