There is some speculation regarding the origin of the Golden Retriever, with the original building pre-dating planning legislation. It is believed that the original site was a foresters cottage, dating back before 1841. The building was later developed into dog-kennels (explaining the name 'Golden Retriever'), whilst retaining its traditional farm-house style.

Myself and three others had a great meal. I had the sea bass. This was THE BEST sea bass meal I have ever tasted. It came on top of a lovely mash, and crisp broccoli with chopped bacon and pea in a really tasty sauce. We'll done to the chef who prepared this superb meal. I look forward to having this meal again. Here's a photo.
Beautiful meal with a lovely open fire, what more could you want? I came here last year for my birthday and returned again as it was brilliant! We had a 3 course meal, starting off with the sticky chicken and the deep fried Brie bites which was served with a lovely Ginger and apricot chutney which was to die for! We then had the sausage & mash and the festive buttermilk burger. The gravy was spot on! I opted for the festive burger which was absolutely beautiful, containing brie/camembert and cranberry sauce. We then finished off by sharing a sticky toffee pudding. I do have to say that I am a bit of a Gin connoisseur and always try new flavours wherever I go. I was pleasantly suprised when there was a rhubarb and bramley apple which tasted just like an apple crumble. It was not too sweet but left a lovely aftertaste. Thank you for having us again, we will be back! Courtney & Rhys
This is a great place to dine and the food is excellent. Partner and I had the fish and chip, and I had the signature burger, and they were divine. I honestly have not eaten a burger that good in ages, and the portion of fish was huge. Staff were really friendly, and the open fire was great to be next to . Dog and family friendly and very well presented
Lovely festive feel, food was delicious and great service. We chose from the festive menu which had great options and catered for allergies and intolerances well. Charlotte, who served us, was very helpful, attentive and friendly.
Popped in this morning for a post parkrun breakfast. Very nice and cosy pub, clean and spacious. Loved the fireplaces and Christmas decorations. The food was delicious and staff were superb. Highly recommend and will definitely visit again!
