Conveniently situated close to the west side of the swing bridge, just tucked away up Golden Lion Bank, a warm welcome is guaranteed at this traditional small, friendly, timeless Grade 11 listed pub, where locals and visitors alike experience a great atmosphere and where nothing appears to have changed over the years. A varied mix of the more well known national beers are served from four handpumps, though this selection may be reduced in the quieter winter months. For the numismatists among us, the tables in the lounge are adorned with old pennies.

What an amazing pub great atmosphere and great staff. I've had a quite a few nights in there and go every time I'm in whitby. Especially good when the people play the music
We were 2 couples on a week’s holiday. First impressions, thought everywhere good do with a good clean but you find these sort of pubs end up being the best. But that theory wasn’t to be with this place. Very unpleasant barman, we spent a good amount of money in here but got the feeling our faces didn’t fit. Landlord was very arrogant, didn’t even have the courtesy to look at my husband while he tried to make conversation. Some really good pubs have had to shut after falling on hard times. Shame it didn’t happen to this place. Doesn’t deserve people’s hard earned money to keep this place open. Disgusting service.
whilst having a short break in whitby,we pop in for one drink and realised there was live music so we ended up staying till chucking out time fabulous night had by all,music was great and others patrons were very friendly and chatty definitely would return
Hubby and I had a great Monday night whilst staying in Whitby. Popped into the town for a Guinness and food, but enjoyed the atmosphere and live music in this quaint Irish pub so much we were too late for food by the time we left the pub (lol 😆) so we ended up calling for a takeaway pizza 🍕 . Will certainly revisit the next time we're in Whitby.
This was my favourite little pub in Whitby but will not be returning. Disgraceful behaviour from a member of staff - who possibly is the landlady. She stormed into the pub and shouted loudly at me and my partner to 'get out' without giving any reason at all. We were sat quietly having a drink having already been in an hour or so earlier but had returned as we liked it so much. The only reason I can think of is that my partner had his football shirt and tracksuit bottoms on and it was 9.00pm on a Saturday night. If that was the reason then fair enough but there are ways in which you speak to people. That woman didn't have an ounce of customer service within her and quite frankly was horrible.
